Not able to update Red Alert 2.

Ok, I have Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge from the Ultimate Collection.  I got them to work fine before, but anymore when I download and try to play them, I get a box that says to update.  If I were to click on play anyway, I get a black screen.  If I click update, the update box opens up, but it just sits there at 0%.  What can I do to fix this?

I am on a notebook with Windows 10.

  • @tompkinsn All games in The Ultimate Collection come updated to their latest (official) version. If you get an update message, this is most likely caused by a problem with user rights. Make sure to run your game in administrator mode.

If you don't get it running, one easy fix could be to download and install the CnCNet installer for RA2; it comes with a bunch of fixes that may solve these problems automatically.

  • Thank you for the response.  The installer got rid of the update thing.  However, now I just get a black screen.

@tompkinsn You will need to enable TS-DDRAW in the client options if you're playing via the CnCNet client.

    OR

The graphics system patch DDWrapper is known to solve some graphics issues on RA2. You could try that.

Download the zip file and extract "ddraw.dll" and "aqrit.cfg" into your game folder. Then, open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" in Notepad, change the "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" option to 1, save the file, and the game should work.
