Re: Red Alert 2 Base explodes in a minute

Hi @PridexSP,

The base exploding issue is often caused by owning an illegal version of the game.

You however mention that you have the Origin version. This game is currently available on our On the House promotion. If you have this version, make sure that you have no older or illegal version of the game installed on your computer. It also sometimes helps to run Origin / RA2 as admin. You can do this by right clicking the shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator". Also, make sure that you turn off Origin in-game.

Alternatively, I would advise you to check out the stickies on our C&C Board, they offer a lot of information.

Good luck!

No, I never have any other Red Alert 2 or Yuri's Revenge on this computer ever. Only Origin, that's it. And running as Admin doesn't work. I still need a solution.

Okay, I try turning off the Origin in game and running as admin and still doesn't work.

    Hi @PridexSP,

I did some more research into this. The only solutions that I could find:

    • Reinstall the game
    • Change screen resolution
    • Don't install the latest patch ( you can enable ignoring non-mandatory game updates from the Application Settings menu )

    Good luck!

I try reinstalling by ignoring non-mandatory update and still doesn't work. Same thing happens. I got a new icon image for the game but same thing happens. You told me to change screen resolution. What screen resolution should I change it to? But I tried all 3 of them and they all don't work.

Run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 3.

As for the game resolution... if you manage to start the game, that is completely irrelevant. Nevermind changing it.

Overall, this is an "old DRM" problem, and quite an annoying one. I've heard of cases where it just worked after a couple of reinstalls. But either way, you'll need that compatibility mode.

Note that the game folder has a bunch of executables (RA2.exe, RA2MD.exe, yuri.exe, game.exe, gamemd.exe...). Your safest bet is to enable it on all of them.

After I reinstall it without the ignore non-mandatory game update, I was able to have the compatibility tab and check the run as administrator but it still doesn't work. The base still explodes in a minute. I also can't find any of those folders.

Folders? You can find your game install folder by opening the Origin menu, clicking to Application Settings, and in the settings screen, going to the Advanced section. You can copy the address in the grey box there and paste it in your file browser to find the location where the games are physically located on your disk.

@PridexSP They're all the files marked as "application" in the "type" column if you set the view to Details.

I suggest you google "show file name extensions" and follow the instructions for your Windows version. It's practically impossible to get decent tech support if you can't properly see the names of your own files. Yay, Windows :-\

@Viper1987rTry close and reopen the game, I fixed it by this. If that didn't help, try repair the game in Origin.

I have purchased the whole range of Command & Conquer from Origin for the past 2 years the last time just a few months ago.  I am having to completely delete any presence of Command and Conquer from my PC and then reload a fresh copy and login as I always have.   This usually works but if I try to run Red Alert again I get Red Alert 2 exploding with the first minute of play.

    Please advise?

    @Sany0TV

A lot of the games have been upgraded with community-created unofficial patches that fix a lot of their bugs and compatibility problems. You can find them here:

    Command & Conquer 1:

    Red Alert 1:

    Tiberian Sun:

    Red Alert 2:

    • I advise installing the CnCNet online play installer for RA2/YR. Even if you're not interested in online play, it comes with a bunch of automatic fixes. It should automatically take care of the "black screen" issue, and has a configuration tool that allows further tweaking of the game's settings.

    Generals:

    • GenTool seems to be the main patch for Generals these days. The website is kind of vague on what it does besides restoring multiplayer and adding anti-cheat, but I heard it does a lot to make it work better on modern OSes too.
