Red Alert 2 Disc will not Install

Old games can be tricky. Perhaps running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer will help.

Don't launch the setup from the autorun. Close the autorun, find the actual setup exe, set it in Win98 compatibility mode, and run that directly.

You may also need to install the DirectX 9 components on your PC. Microsoft is notorious for making higher-versioned products that in fact no longer contain necessary pieces of their lower versions, meaning having a higher DirectX version is no guarantee the old games will work.

I did run the runtime installer. I will try to put the .exe files in win 98 mode and also run the autorun by itself.

I set the setup file to Win 98 and ran it indepandent of the autorun. Same problem. "Directx Error: Action not supported".... "Setup.exe has stoped working".

It seems to me that I have the unfortunate luck of having a uniqe problem. I have searched online for ages and there is no solution, yet.

I'll assume you're running W8 or 7. Correct me if that's wrong.

Have you tried all the standard stuff? Compatibility mode and running as an admin?

Windows 7 (32bit).
I did this stuff yes. I went into the disc (Allied, disc 1) and set all .exe files to run in Win 98 and as administrator. No matter what I always get that stupid, fun ruining message.

I also ran the DirecX June 2010 runtime package (for the second time) and the DirectX Web Installer (for the second time) and I still have that message.

Did that. Same exact problem.

Load up both the 32bit and 64bit DirectX Control Panels and enable Hardware Acceleration:
Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008) -> DirectX Utilities -> DirectX Control Panel -> DirectDraw -> Tick "Hardware Acceleration" -> Click OK
Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008) -> DirectX Utilities (64-Bit) -> DirectX Control Panel -> DirectDraw -> Tick "Hardware Acceleration" -> Click OK

See if that helps.

I installed the software, however when I went to do the steps you sugested only "DirectX Ultilites" was availible, there was no option for "DirectX Ultilites (64-bit)".

Nonetheless I follwed the rest of the instructions and I found that harware acceleration was already ticked when I got there. I ran the Setup.exe again with the same error messages.

Then I decided to untick hardwre acceleration, and I get the same problem.

Unless I missed  a step, this is not the solution unfortunately.
