Titan

I wish the titans beam worked more like chain lightning instead of a line titan is very under used and i feel like this would make them more usable with the titans low speed getting into position to take advantage of the line is hard if it just hit 1 adjacent unit instead it would be more worthy

  • I like this idea, the titan probably should be a bit better in its niche and this seems like an interesting way to do it.
  • I like the idea as well but that would probably make the titan a little too strong if its anti vehicle Railgun would chain into all nearby enemies unless the damage would decrease with each additional unit struck down to zero or have a cap on how many units it can bounce to. An idea I had on my own just now is what if the Titan's Railgun pierced in a straight line as long as units are present for example if there are three units at a diagonal or straight line it would pierce and hit all of them. Another idea is the current Titan we have is the one armed Railgun version what if they changed it to the two armed Railgun version from Tiberium Twilight, with each arm able to target individually such that one arm would shoot straight and one could fire in a left or right arc like the GDI Kodiak does and keep the current piercing. Titan MK 2 Example from Tiberium Twilight

As i said it would only chain to 1 adjacent unit with a preference for vehicles

  • I disagree, the Titan is already a monster when it comes to dealing damage. Allowing it's back line shot to arc like a chain lightning effect would make dealing with it much more difficult, the easiest way to take down a Titan (Outside of Air units) is to position your troops properly so they can engage it without a squad taking unnecessary damage. One of the advantages of using the Titan is using it to guard choke points which is rewarding proper positioning such as the opponent is rewarded for positioning his troops correctly for a engagement.

You guys are pretty much suggesting that the Titan should just obliterate any two spaces, that back line shot still does full damage. If it's going to be changed to a chain lightning effect, the damage for additional targets would have to be reduced. We don't need Sandstorm 2.0 that is capable of surviving a direct Ion Cannon blast and has enough health left (Just under half health) over to remain a threat.

Well considering that the nod flame tank obliterates 4 spaces at once i think its pretty modest it would also help out new players into the game as titan starter epic would be more valuable and considering its cost i dont think its too unreasonable cyborgs and zone troopers counter it pretty hard

  • Flame tank is countered pretty hard by Pitbulls and Attack Bikes (Air too) as well. They're completely different units, with their own strengths and weakness, however if you feel the need to compare the two, in terms of raw damage output and health, the Titan wins because unlike the Flame Tank that has high sustained damage, the Titan has high burst potential on a relatively short trigger. I'd rather not have units of either faction be turned into clones of each other that just look different.

Infantry units for GDI have always been a struggle when compared to playing NOD. NOD has a pretty solid line up of Infantry units that can deal with a wide selection of threats while not being vulnerable to those threats. GDI on the other hand, don't have any close the options NOD does for dealing with infantry, majority of units GDI uses against Infantry deal and take increased damage.

yes, it would have to be balanced of course, you don't change fundamental mechanics of a unit without a rebalance, and I wouldn't want it hitting more than 2 targets ever, but right now the titan is outclassed by most of the other late game GDI choices, its niche is very small, and this at least makes them a bit better in an interesting way and gives them a better shot at being the unit you use to counter heavy vehicle strategies where right now every other late game anti-vehicle option GDI has is just better because its more versatile and still deals with things nearly as effectively if not more so. I'd much rather have an interesting mechanic change that requires more strategic thought in the game than see the titan fill its niche by getting a stat buff.

Also not sure why we're comparing to the flame tank, if you want a better comparison compare it to the sandstorm or the kodiak, the sandstorm does nearly as much damage as the titan over time, also hits air, and hits 2 adjacent spaces which is easier to achieve than a lined up shot. The Kodiak hits 3 adjacent spaces, can fly over obstacles, moves faster, and can't be targetted by a lot of things that would kill a titan (rockworms, artillery, MRLS), it also survives an ion cannon blast and does similar damage. Yes, the titan has a much higher alpha strike, but it takes two shots for it to kill almost everything right now which makes that really not matter.

Offtopic mav, you say GDI is lacking in infantry counters compared to nod but they just come later in player level, snipers are decent if a slight bit underpowered, disruptors are almost certainly the best infantry counter in the game at this point.
  • I know GDI have the counters for them, that is why there is such a struggle of GDI vs NOD right now at low levels. Am level 11 right now, so I don't have access to Snipers (I wish did) and haven't drawn the Distruptor yet, who knows when RNG will bless me. Until then, this level restriction BS makes dealing with NOD infantry a massive struggle because GDI lack the options until high levels.

They need to re-vamp their level restrictions, either lower the requirements or shift around what units become unlocked. Until they do that, I stand by GDI lacking the options to deal with NOD infantry due to them not actually being accessible for a extreme majority of this game.

Yep, completely agree with you there, definitely need those infantry counters many levels sooner.
