Dead Space 2 Activation Loop

I bought Dead Space 2 on Steam and it's stuck in an activation loop. It will ask me to activate it then I do and then it doesn't do anything else. So, thought I, I'll regeister it to Origin to see if that helps... Well I got passed the release date check... yippie! But it still won't load. I've heard that renaming the file from deadspace2.exe to DS2.exe will work but I can't figure out how to do that. Step by step help please!

    Hey edyni666!

Did you see your game on the Origin "My Games" screen? If you could provide us some more information about the issue, we could verify if it's a connection, client or other problem.

    Try following workaround:

Download and install the latest version of Origin at www.origin.com/download (and make sure you have your Origin account ready as well).
If that doesn’t helped, close the origin client and go directly to you origin folder  C:\Program Files\Origin Games. Run the origin.exe in this folder with a rightclick -> run as administrator.

This worked out in the most cases, if not, try to deactivate your firewall/antivirus software and/or check the online ports of your connection:

    TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
    UDP
    : 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300
For specific instructions on how to open your ports, please visit http://www.portforward.com/ or contact your router manufacturer.

Please let us now, if this problem after this workaround still exist.

    Cheers

    Basti

I had the same problem but on Origin, renaming the executable to DS2 worked for me. If you find the folder your game is installed in, for steam it's usually C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common then probably /Dead Space2 the exe should be in there. Then right click the deadspace2.exe and click rename then type DS2.  Only problem is that you might have to make a new shortcut just right click on it again and select create shortcut and drag that to your desktop or where ever.

Had the same problem and this seemed to work. I am using an i7 laptop with an Nvidia 520m card.  It seems that the onboard intel video that is used by the i7  processor when the Nvidia card is not required is the problem:

    • Open Nvidia control panel, either from the windows control panel or by right-clicking the Nvidia Ge Force experience icong in the system tray (if your are running that program)
    • If you are not viewing 3d settings by default, click on "manage 3d settings on the lefthand frame
    • In the righthand frame you have two tabs: global settings and program , choose program settings
    • In the drop down window, select Dead Space 2
    • Where ist says select the preferred graphics processor for this program, choose "high-performance Nvidia processor"
    • Click "apply"

This will only change the settings for this game, and will allow you to properly activate and play the game!

(at least it worked for me)
