[Feedback] Things to Consider for an Eventual Dead Space 2 Remake/Remaster
Hello EA Community,
Dead Space 2 is arguably the most beloved game in the series and for good reasons, as it does the best job at exploring the Action Horror concept. I have played this game a lot recently, and I thought I would leave some of my thoughts on which aspects could be improved in the eventuality of a Remake/Remaster:
1. Technical:
- Upgrade to newer DX version with options for Ambient Occlusion, Volumetrics, Resolution Scaling up to 200% and support for SMAA/TAA. Those should offer great graphics and future proofing.
- Raw Mouse Input support and bindable side buttons for optimal mouse experience.
- Hold/Toggle options for Sprinting and Aiming instead of manual keybinds (Ideally they shouldn't allow to sprint while aiming like in DS Remake).
- Roll Left/Right controls for flight, similar to DS Remake.
- Fixes for physics and event triggers breaking with high FPS.
- Fix for the Solar Array Elevator breaking after dying and requiring a game reload.
- Fix for the Mining Drill bug where it breaks if you save midway through completing the room.
- QTE's should require less button spamming, as it gets a bit ridiculous.
- Ability to skip the video calls if the player wants to save time. Speedrunners will love this.
- Slightly faster animations for using Locator, Stores, Workbenches, Saveboxes and Suit Swaps to make the gameplay feel a bit more fluid.
- Hardcore mode should have 1 save file with unlimited saves that downgrades to Survivor when dying instead of having 3 saves per run.
- Achievements for PC.
- Severed DLC on all platforms.
2. Combat & Progression:
- Many weapons have pointless alternate fires. In my opinion the arsenal should be swapped with the Dead Space Remake version plus a Javelin Thrower with a cooler visual design, there's no real need for Seeker/Rivet Gun/Detonator as they would be redundant. Although a redesigned Rivet Gun would also be nice.
- Pulse Rifle should fire a single bullet on tap instead of two (like in DS Remake). It's annoying to waste twice the ammo needed to destroy crates or to pop loot from bodies.
- Empty nodes for weapons should be replaced with capacity and reload upgrades, which should give a smaller bonus instead.
- Capacity upgrades should only give ammo equal to the added capacity instead of a full clip, as they end up giving too much free ammo. Plus it can be exploited by resetting the nodes.
- Fully upgrading a weapon should give some kind of bonus, even if it's just visual. Currently it feels underwhelming going from optimal to fully upgraded.
- Suit upgrades should include stasis and kinesis bonuses instead of empty nodes, similar to DS Remake.
- Remove Special edition variants for guns as they are too strong anyway, and make the skins usable from a separate menu.
- Armor skin variations should either cost money or give only the special effect, and be selectable from a different menu so they don't bloat the shop.
- Some of the skins should be collectibles, rewarded for achievements or placed instead of the removed weapons or even some of the nodes.
- Node powered rooms are pointless, as they actually give more than a node worth of goodies for your node anyway. They should instead have a nearby secret key or puzzle that unlocks them.
- Collected nodes after being fully upgraded should be converted to extra credits, as they no longer have a use.
- Exploder sack radius needs to be slightly toned down, so he can only instakill in his immediate proximity.
- The boss fights are kind of scarce in this game. It could have used an extra boss in the mid game and another one towards the end.
I hope that someone will eventually find something useful in this post, and that at some point a Remake/Remaster of Dead Space 2 will be considered. This game is one of the classics and it needs to be brought up to modern standards, eventually. Cheers!
@NinjaReborn94 Still one of the top horror games in my opinion! I DS 2 is one you can play over and over. Love the feedback on this too! Nice job. Will pass this up the chain!
Have an awesome weekend!
Cheers!
