Wall scaling and secondary fire don't seem to play nice with eachother it seems.
Some examples: While rappelling down or climbing up in some missions, explosive module won't work on telemetry spikes. 2nd tool rocket launcher refuses to fire. etc.
I think it's "realistic" as you don't have the luxury of using both hands to steadily use the gun, but from a logic perspective it makes almost no sense.
