DLCs worth playing of all 3 games (DLC names and order)

Hi

I am considering a fresh playthrough from A to Z.

DA:O > DA2 > DA:I

I am very picky about what sort of content I want to play in a game that already offers so much content. Usually I don't do many side quests and just stick to the main story. Ofcourse, I make the companions' personal quests if I like them.

I want a DLC to feel like a significant addition to my main story and not just a filler. I would rather prefer to spend some time playing a DLC or an expansion where the consequences of that playthrough echo in Dragon Age Inquisition.

1). Which DLCs are worth buying for all three games?

2). Which chronological order should I play those DLCs in so they make sense?

3). And what about Dragon Age ⚽ Awakening expansion - is it worth it? Will any actions from here play a significant role in the next two games? I heard some bad things about it once.

Thanks for your patience

  • My recommendations:

    Dragon Age Origins

The Stone Prisoner - An additional character. This doesn't have any effect on the sequels, but Shale is a great character throughout the game.

Awakening - I think this is some of the best content in the entire series. Awakening doesn't affect DAI, but it contains two characters who are involved in DA2, so it's great to have some context.

    Dragon Age II

Legacy - This DLC is is important if you want context for Dragon Age Inquisition. I think this DLC is best played right at the start of the third act.

    Dragon Age Inquisition

Trespasser - A post-game DLC. Great story that brings closure, and it also affects skill trees throughout the game.

Tip: Always check to see if there's a sale going on. You can often find Dragon Age Origins - Ultimate Edition really cheap, which is handy as it contains all the DLC. At the moment, the Ultimate Edition is 50% off where I am (France) in Origin so it may be a better deal that buying the DLC separately. If you miss the sale, you could wait a while and get it during the Steam sale.

I would suggest Origins, DA2, DAI with Jaws of Hakkon BEFORE the final mission, the Trespasser after. JoH does give you more insight into the first Inquisition and into the religions of Thedas and, how it was closer to the time of Andraste. Quite interesting.

Decent is good too, if you want to learn more about dwarves and Lyrium and, can be played any time form level 15 on, though I suggest level 17 to 20 to complete that DLC.

  • Personally, I like all of the DLC. I'll expand on a few things that the others have left out.

Witch Hunt for Origins kind of expands on Morrigan and her Eluvian.

Lelliana's Song gives you her back story.

Warden's Keep is also interesting and gives us the first real look into the darker world of the Wardens.

Exiled Prince for 2 gives us some interesting and amusing banter from Varric in Inquisition.

Legacy does give you a lot more context for Inquisition as said before. It also gives you the chance to make yourself a cool weapon.

A lot of the DLCs seem to give you some cool stuff. Weapons/Armor/Schematics(Inquisition only). For those reasons, I find them worth playing. But it really depends on if you're more interested in action or in the story. For story, they're all worth it. For action, you get stuff to help you out. Therefore, they're all worth it, imo.
