Game crashes (bluescreen event), particularly during cutscenes.

At first, this was happening randomly... then when I tried to talk to Varric in the first Inquisition camp.  I've managed to somehow get past that, and now when I go into the chantry for a cutscene with Cassandra, it bluescreens and reboots my PC.  LOVE THIS GAME SO VERY MUCH.  (OK, maybe not.)  I have the graphics settings optimized per NVIDIA GeForce Experience.

My machine:

GPU: GeForce GTX 670

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.5GHz

Memory: 16.00 GB RAM (15.95 usable)

Current resolution: 1920 x 1080, 60Hz

Dirver version: 344.75

Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen

OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48

Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:

BCCode: 116

BCP1: FFFFFA800D36D4E0

BCP2: FFFFF88015DE6828

BCP3: FFFFFFFFC000009A

BCP4: 0000000000000004

OS Version: 6_1_7601

Service Pack: 1_0

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Generally, blue screens are caused by driver and/or hardware issues.

I know, I know: "But it only happens when I play this game." In 100% of cases, this is always coincidental.

If you're using the latest beta drivers, I'd recommend rolling back to a stable version. The information you posted is not insanely helpful for troubleshooting, but Googling the Locale ID may offer some insight.

If you want more information, you'll have to use WinDbg to sort through the .dmp file created by the BSOD(stored in Windows\Minidump). That will offer more specific information you can then use to pinpoint the driver or hardware issue.

It is my experience that blue screens are usually caused by fualty hardware or outdated drivers with newer programs.  Do not assume it is always the video driver, I have had issues with the audio driver causing several issues that resemble video card problems (except artifacting).  Your issue sound more on the lines of a driver issue if you are only having it with DAI.

I would check these posts for possible help.

I had a similar issue. Kept bluescreening at the same moment during a cutscene right before you get to where you were supposedly found.

The fix that seems to have gotten me past it is changing the sound device I'm using. Basically switched to using my Nvidia card (GTX 660 Ti) as the sound device instead. Specifically I'm using a dvi-d to HDMI cable to my screen (dvi-d from screen and HDMI to screen) and then getting the sound from my screen through a regular headphone/speaker sound cable. A regular HDMI to HDMI setup would work just fine as well.

Was previously using a Creative Sound Blaster sound card with a driver that have had no updates for years. Same for the motherboard (ASUS P7P55D), last bios update was in 2010 or 2011.

    Other than that running:

    • OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    • Chassis: CM Storm Scout
    • CPU:Intel Core i5 750 2,66GHz
    • Mobo: Asus P7P55D Pro
    • RAM: Corsair Dominator 4x2 GB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz
    • GPU: XFX GTX 660 Ti
    • Harddrives: 2TB HDD, 3TB HDD, 256GB SSD and a 128GB SSD

Inquisition installed on the 256GB SSD and Origin on the 3TB HDD.

Prior to this I had to no avail done the following (still am):

    • disabled my anti-virus (Avast)
    • disabled my second screen
    • disabled software that mirrors the startmenu on extra screens and more
    • disabled steam
    • disabled skype
    • disabled battlenet
    • ran the game in compatability mode (Windows 7) - this did however fix an earlier problem I had.
    • re-installed visual studio run-time
    • made sure I have the latest video card driver
