Graphic settings, Origin overlay, and overheating

I have 760 GTX which is half decent for DAI but in order to get maximum performance, I have to watch for the GPU overheating and the only software which can do this in MSI Afterburner and associated Riva Tuner. But the Origin overlay is not working in this case as it seems that this is an intended Origin feature which will probably never get fixed.

So, the question is if there is some alternative to set fan speed on 760 GTX and monitor GPU and CPU temperature with an overlay that does not cause problem with Origin? Or I should forget about it and just tune down the graphics so that it is guaranteed not to overheat?

Also, after hosting or playing 5-6 multiplayer games, my CPU starts to overheat violently on all 8 cores (sometimes 6 cores only) and DAI maxes its memory use to around 2+Gb. I do have to restart the game otherwise it crashes violently without any message, just window gets closed. There is no entry in the event viewer to see.

Win7 64 bit, 16 Gb memory, latest DAI and Origin beta here.

  • Personally, I would scrap the idea of running any overlay in this game, until they update/change things.  The Orgin overlay causes stuttering on my system, and I have seen several posts on how any overlay can cause crashing to desktop with this game.  So turn down your graphics and try to enjoy the game worry free as possible.

Your CPU and GPU should not overheat from playing a game. Are your heatsinks free of dust? Does your case have good airflow? What are the temperatures of each one?

Disable Origin in-game. Who really needs it, anyway? Also, is your PC overheating with other games, such as Battlefield 4? If not, then it could be due to the latest patch. I'm running an unpatched version of the game and my GTX 970 never goes over 72°C. It easily goes over 75°C in Crysis 3, though, but that game is pretty stable as far as uptimes and optimization are concerned.

Sorry to say, looks like you are having severe issue with the cooling. It is not down to the software, hardware won't overheat ever with software unless you overclocked beyond rated clock speed and voltage.

Which GTX 970 is that? I am running MSI GTX 970 Golden Edition overclocked and I don't cross 66 degrees C ever, even GPU stress tests like Furmark.

EVGA GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0. Your GPU has better cooling than mine.
