I thought the smaller scope of the game was refreshing. Some other games I liked that mostly take place in one city and its surrounding are The Witcher and Trails from Zero/Trails to Azure. All great games.
My favourite character is Gamlen and I hope that he returns for Veilguard. - EA_Illium3 months agoCommunity Manager
I can understand why this one always has the most polarized viewpoints. That being said the focus on Mage vs Templar and how those issues felt built over from Origins and later carried into Inquisition always made DA2 fit perfectly in the overall storyline.
That witcher is a great comparison, I think both showcase how large some city-states can be and how not everyone (Your hero included) always go on content-spanning adventures. Keeping it local gave an interesting sense of scale on Kirkwall's size.

I was always a fan of DA2, I played it when I was quite younger so didn't notice all the issues people were complaining about. It still holds a special place in my heart! It's a much more intimate experience as apposed to DAO and DAI and tbh DATV kinda looks like it will be heading in that direction also (which I kind of hope).
Yes. Each Dragon Age game has reflected the fashions of its time. Arguably Origins draws from the semi-linear Neverwinter Nights (2002). Dragon Age II, being a somewhat budget-restricted follow-up, looks somewhat like the Dragon Age Origins expansion: 'Awakening' in scope. Inquisition clearly takes some influence from the hugely successful Skyrim with its rolling and in hindsight unnecessary optional areas. Veilguard is being compared in previews to 'God of War (2018)' in having a more linear mission-based structure with some hub areas.
