Patch 3 Shield Bug
After installing patch 3, all my crafted shields had their armor rating reset to 0 and every time I try to craft a Darkspawn Alpha Shield and equip it on my main character, it's gone after a save/loa...
Thanks for the updates Nils. Guess I'll pause my playthought until it's fixed.
For once, I say testers are not to blame (not entirely) for that. You can't expect a full betatest of the game with every single patch (that'd be madness, I think), althought if I were the boss of the betatesting department, I'd have a very serious word with my workers with every quest I couldn't possibly complete (AKA, Pallin and Quarry Quaundry).
It's their job to investigate every possible outcome of every quest, after all, and if they can't catch up something as simple as Pallin not being avaliable in Sahrnia if you judge her early, thus being unable to complete the quest, well...:catmad:
Gladitorium, what are you talking about? Of course nobody expects a full beta test for every patch, that would be insane. I expected for them to have a look through the inventory of several savegames, provided by QA (hell QA should be the ones doing it probably).
In patch 2 they didn't have a look at characters to start with. Just a few savegames loaded into a low-preset-configuration would've revealed characters having aged a hundred years. Looking...is it really asked to much? ☹️

And if in Patch 2 or 3 they had screwed up some quest, would you have "expected" them to have a look at all the quests of the game then?
Like if testers were mediums who exactly knows the area where something was messed up with the latest patch :P
How about some shades of grey instead of black and white? Having a look at all quests or even a part of them is considerbly more difficult than having a look at item categories. I know there are many items, but QA in their beta test definitely made tons of savegames of different characters with different items. Picking some of them out for future beta tests is something I'd consider a standard.
There ought to be different stages of beta test for different projects. A game gets a full one, a DLC a medium one and a patch a quick one. With obvious bugs like this it's hard to believe there was a test at all...
I repeat: programming is sometimes pretty unpredictable. You fix one thing, and in the process you screw something up in the least predictable direction. Yeah, maybe they should have done a quick general look before releasing the patch, but being that bug so specific (only affecting crafted shields), it's even possible they've done it and just overlooked that.
And I also repeat that you can't betatest every slight detail of the entire game with every patch, which would be the ideal solution. So I guess the devs are more like "I touch this and hope I don't screw anything" than anything else.
As I said that I'd mostly fire those betatesters who leave quests untested, I'd be more comprehensive with those involuntary mistakes. That's something called being 'reasonable'.
