(PC, Origin Version, DAI) Game still running after exiting.

I exited Dragon Age Inquisition for PC, and it would not close. It was frozen on the black exit screen, with the saving symbol on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I closed the game using task manager, and yet when I looked in the details tab in task manager, I saw that the game was still running. Everytime I tried to end the program using task manager, it would give me a message saying "access is denied". Even upon restarting my computer, the game is still running. Although when I had restarted, the game only showed to be running under the "details" tab in task manager.

When trying to open the game through Origin, it only creates another instance of the game, but does not show to be running. I click the play button, and no game shows up. However in task manager it shows in the details tab that two Dragon Age Inquistions are running, and taking up a lot of processing power. The only fix was to do a system restore, to a previous date. However, after doing so and playing the game again, after a few days the same thing happened.

Now I have one of Dragon Age Inquisition constantly running on my computer, I cannot close it, restarting does not close it, using third party task manager programs does not help, and using administrator mode does not work. I am system restoring again, but would like to know what the issue is so this does not happen again, and perhaps find a fix.

First of all, I'd try some malware scans, just in case that's a factor.

When you're killing the game from task manager are you just using the process tab, or the services tab too?

  • I only used the processes tab to close out of the game, I'll try some malware scans tomorrow.

  • After trying to scan for malware just now using Malwarebytes, it says that the scan failed to run succesfully. Could that be an issue?

  • Just completed a malwarebytes threat scan, no threats were detected.

Thanks. Another thing to check for is to restart your machine with a Clean Boot.

This is specifically telling your PC to only start certain programs on startup, so it'll be interesting to see how this affects behaviour.

  • I'll reply to you tomorrow, as it is 3:30 am. I'll make sure to try the clean boot.

Fair enough, the timezone difference can be a killer sometimes. 🙂

    Good night.

  • Hello! After doing a system restore, the game is now closed in the details tab of my task manager. I'm updating all of my drivers and I have done a scan, and found no malware threats. Before I open a potential pandora's box by trying to start the game, do you have anything I could maybe do to fix this issue before it starts? Don't worry about a late reply, I know we have different time zones. Thanks for helping me out through this!

  • I just got info from dxdiag, so I have my specs if you'd like to see them. Just in case that could be the issue.
