Re: DirectX Function "Get device Removed Reason" Error

Have you tried running in a frameless window?  (Alt-Enter gets that started, I believe)

  • I always play in full screen mode (not frames on window).  Not sure but believe that is same this as what you suggest.

BTW - this happens to my husband as well (KorbenMyMan)  His GPU is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760.

I believe this is a bug in the game not the PC's running the game.

  • I wanted to clarify my earlier statement about bug in game.    I do understand that you ("royal" you)  need to verify the problem isn't the set up of the machine running the game.  However, this seems to be a problem inside the game's code as well.  I really posted to help you de-bug and fix.

I don't find it unusual for new games to have problems and this one doesn't stop me from playing so far.  I am not as far into the game as other posts mention.

Unlike the EA Help Center, the residents of Answer HQ have nothing like a team of respondents.  We are individuals (weekends, certainly), with a small leavening of CMs during the week.  We volunteers have, indeed, learned that Windowed Mode changes how games work, often beneficially.  The frameless window is a way to simulate a real fullscreen mode without losing the benefits we have found.

  • Thanks Gorath_the_Elder!  Really appreciate the time you all are putting into Answer HQ.  I tried posting the bug with EA and this is where they sent me.  Is there a way for me to post bugs with EA, or do they get them from this site?

BTW - I did try Alt-Enter for frameless window and have not crashed once tonight.  I told my husband after he got frustrated at his second crash while in character creation (CC).  (He crashed in CC alot over the past few days)  He made it through CC but crashed at the cutscene when first meet Cassandra.  His  system is higher than the minimum and at the recommended except his graphics card is NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 vice 660.

I have the same problem as Maeve4444. (my Graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce GTX 760)

In the FAQ I read that:

    [PC] DirectX Crashes

    • We are aware of issues with certain NVidia graphic cards and we are working with NVIDIA on a solution.

Does the above refer to the problem I and Maeve are having?

@Maeve: According to the FAQ http://answers.ea.com/t5/Dragon-Age-Inquisition/INFO-DA-I-Troubleshooting-amp-Workarounds/m-p/4012827#U4012827

NVIDIA Problems seem not directly related to AMD problems. I have spent about 4 hours in Char editor (Sigh when can we finally save there Bioware?)

and it never crashed for me (with AMD). I have used the new AMD Beta drivers and the game didn't crash in the last 3 hours. But that doesn't mean that the problem is gone. With the newest drivers (not beta) I had 3 crashes in 1 hour and then in 5 hours no crash.

Actually, I think there are more "inadequate performance" complaints about the high end Geforces running relatively slowly than about any other graphics type symptom, although "some" Radeons suffer in the same way.  Since no one I am aware of has made time to make a survey of all complaints to COUNT how many we've had just here on AHQ, of what kind, that's merely a personal impression.

Addendum: AMD beta drivers don't solve this issue.

I appreciate any help I can get. However if you sell a product and it malfunctions on most of the systems out there. You might want to reconsider things.
