I wonder if all of us with this problem are Deluxe Edition users.
TL;DR:
After adding the Deluxe Edition download to my regular game files, I got an instant "unreadable disc" error. The game was working fine before. After clearing cache and restarting the Xbox 360 twice, I could get the game to start again. Immediately, dialogue got chopped up and could not be understood again without the aid of subtitles.
Here's some new data points:
1. I returned my discs and got new ones. This caused fewer "unreadable disc" errors-- just two in a whole evening.
2. I still had problems when I could play, with the sounds being the most obvious. Dialogue was choppy and played as if the the words had been scrambled. Only having the subtitles on saved me for being able to understand the plot.
3. I thought with the new discs, maybe I should do a reinstall of the game files. I thought maybe that would clear up the sound problems and fix the remaining "unreadable disc" errors. Today I did the reinstall.
4. I played with no disc errors and the sound and dialogue were never corrupted.
5. I forgot to reinstall the Deluxe Edition after I installed the fresh game files. I played all the way to Haven without a glitch in sound or an "unreadable disc" error.
6. When I realized my deluxe edition items weren't in the chest, I remembered to go back and install the deluxe edition download piece. By the way, I've re-downloaded the Deluxe Edition files off Xbox Live 4 times. I do not have a set of corrupted files for that.
7. Instantly I got an "unreadable disc" error. Immediately, dialogue got chopped up and could not be understood again without the aid of subtitles.
Related comment to the developers and anyone who wants to try this solution:
The makers of the game committed the nearly unforgiveable sin of tying character save files to the game install. Everything I had done before the reinstall of the corrupted game files was completely gone. I nearly lost faith and returned the game as a lost cause at this point. It made everything I did seem futile. It will definitely inform my decision on whether to purchase games from Bioware in the future. This is so sad, because I truly love this series and Mass Effect. But I'm about done. There are too many games to play and too many other things to do in life to waste so many hours like this.

Does this mean that if we delete the downloads for deluxe edition, we can quit having the damn error? I'd give up those downloads for that.
- Anonymous11 years agoSo if I delete the deluxe content I'm going to lose my game save and have to start all over again?

I had this problem earlier. I deleted Disc 1 content re-installed it then cleared my cache and the game is working again, for now. (I did not however delete my digital deluxe DLC)

Problem is that the "disk is unreadable" in my case happens when I try to create my character, and I did not donwload the deluxe content :l so I don't know what to think

I have this problem too, and I DON'T have the deluxe version. Tried clearing the cashe, restarting, and I can only get to the gates to GO to the breech and then I get a "disk unreadable' on a brand new disk. Currently trying the "delete everything, clear cashe, reinstall" option. Here's hoping it works.
If it doesn't, I'm not going to be happy. Here's hoping they come out with a solution soon.
- Anonymous11 years agoSame here. Already cleared cache, uninstalled.. Right after cutscene I get: disc unreadable.. Can't play al all anymore. Hope they patch it very soon.

I received this error when I tried to start the first mission in Orlais. After inspecting my disc, it seems my xbox burned 2 rings on the outer side of the disc. I've never seen this before on any of my other games. I never move my xbox and I haven't removed the game from my xbox since I bought it 2 weeks ago. So in my case my disc has been destroyed.
- Anonymous11 years agoTrick I figured out to avoid this: launch the game within another game. I launch something I downloaded, typically Costume Quest 2 or Cthulhu Saves the World, then, once that game hits the menu screen, launch the game on disk. Works every time for me.

Hello, I also have this problem. I just bought Dragon Age today after months of excitement over the game. My boyfriend is Dutch and got his copy in Holland today. He immediately downloaded the English Voice-Over Pack from Xbox Live Marketplace because he did not want the game in Dutch. He then began playing with no problems. Adversely, I cannot even proceed beyond character creation due to 'Disc Unreadable' errors all over the place. He suggested that I download the English Voice-Over Pack, as he had. I'm trying it now. It did not immediately work. I am now going to attempt to install Dragon Age Inquisition (disc 1) onto my harddrive. No option for that. Aaaand we're out of ideas.
By the way, if you get the disc unreadable error when testing voice during character creation, downloading the English Voice-Over Pack will fix that. I have managed to get into the game and tested this. Hope it helps someone : )
