I'm having the same issue. Yes, I found the hidden trove. It was white sand with a Stamina Amulet that gives +10 to max stamina.

Your assumption that OP doesn't know what he's doing is very insulting. Please try to actually help instead of being condescending. Try wording it such that you list a couple of actual solutions along with "Also, a common problem is that people loot the cave but forget to check for the hidden trove." as opposed to being completely dismissive of the problem, chalking it up to user error.

No, I do not find it insulting and that was never my intention either.

I have constant contact with people and yes, a lot of people have problems with different things, that to some might be obvious, to other - not really. I try to treat everyone fairly that way. If that's not your problem, fine. It must have hurt you greatly to clarify that.

When you call IT they may even ask you if the PC is actually ON. Are all the cables plugged in. Etc. No, they don't think you are stupid. Before you create some kind of conspiracy theory, you check the basics.

I understand that next time you will not be able to find your pencil, you will claim it has been abducted by aliens I guess. Because it would be too insulting to suggest, that you may have placed it in a different room in the house.

In fact, I think you were more insulting, because you assumed I wanted to be rude. 

Don't put words in my mouth, as I just wanted to try the simplest suggestion that may have led to gathering more data. That is how you solve problems in the real world.

Your constant buzzing isn't helping to fix the problem at all.

I loaded a save just before I discovered the hidden cache and it did the same thing. I tried again and the quest still refused to complete.

Something coming to my mind is that I did ransack the cave before I even found the map and started the quest... I do not remember if I was able to find a hidden cache in it or not, but it comes to mind that if I did, the cache would have been forced to respawn when I picked up the map. Perhaps that's what's causing the bug? I'll start a new game and try to verify this, but it will be a couple of days before I'm able to do this.

If you stay in Hinterlands area and didn't leave it, you may try going to Haven/Skyhold and return to Hinterlands. This reloads the area, states, objects and NPCs and resolves many issues that are similar.

If that wouldn't work, I'm afraid that the whole quest chain may have been broken and it just needs to get patched. Not sure if it will get noticed, unless more people confirm that. Would be good if you contacted EA directly. They are likely to ask for the save game affected.

I'm having this issue as well.

I had searched the cave long before finding the map, came back, found thi hidden patch of sand, and got a crummy grey amulet as a reward (Stamina Amulet?). Quest is not markes as complete.

Very helpful, thank you!  I had previously discovered the cave and looted it, then found the map after.  I went back and nothing... Didn't even think to use V to find the item and complete the quest until I read your tip.  Again, thank you!
