Re: Reinstalled DA2 unable to read old saved files

Thank you for your reply.

When I select "Switch Character" only the new char appears on the list.

All my chars are in ...My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age 2/Characters.

  • Something about your other characters' saves isn't right.

What's your folder structure?  Should look like the example below.

In this example there are two sets of saves for the characters Cadan and Davit.

The first "named save" for Cadan (Slot_1) is expanded.

All saves should have a similar set of files within their respective "Slot_x" folders:

Folder PATH listing for volume <Diskname>

    Volume serial number is <1A2B-3C4D>

    C:\USERS\<username>\DOCUMENTS\BIOWARE\DRAGON AGE 2

Do you find anyting different in your earlier saves?

Yes, that's it, all the .met and .das files are missing. I shoud've made a back up before reinstallation, right? Now everything is lost, istn't it?

  • Ummmm... Yeah.  The .das is the actual save.  All the rest of it can be faked by copying from any other save if you don't mind your pic and back-story being off.  (Except maybe the .met.  Not sure about that one...)

But if you had "Sync with cloud" turned on in EA/Origin, there may be a way to recover your earlier saves.

Depends on how big the entire collection had become.

There's a 100MB per game title limit.  Once you've hit the limit for any particular game, it appears that all of that game's "cloud" saves get corrupted.

I have individual characters who's set of saves approches 1GB!

Thanks again Thandal, I've tried to recover my data from cloud, but it didn't help, now I lost my new char too lol.

It's good I have time enough to replay DA2 (at least twice) before DAI comes out this fall. :D

Thank you for all your help. :-)

  • Sorry about your saves.  I know what you mean about re-playing before DA:I comes out.  😕mileytongue:

I'm actually planning to replace my main gaming machine (which is six years-old now) and then re-play the entire (and I do mean "entire") series this Summer!
