[Steam] Dragon Age Inquisition Will Not Launch

I bought Dragon Age Inquisition on Steam and it was perfectly fine - today I go to launch it and it will not launch. I get a black screen pop up and then it goes back to my launcher.
I have looked it up, and I have tried everything I could find.

Run as administrator, add exceptions to antivirus, uninstall, reinstall, check environmental variables, change the clock under administrative settings, run in compatibility mode for Windows 8, 7, and every other option, I have cleared caches and temporary folders. I looked all over Reddit, Steam community, and on EA here as well and did everything I could find. I even chatted with EA on here and basically they told me just post here and maybe(????) someone can help, after getting me to see about the anti-cheat which Dragon Age doesn't even have that option from what I can see and I let them know that when I tried to do the steps they asked me. Just basically post here.

I am very frustrated, I cant seem to get it to work - this is the ONLY game that has issues, I tried a couple of the other games on Steam I have and there isn't any issues there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the EA launcher like 5 times also, I ran it as administrator, checked for updates, repairs, all of it and nothing!

Is there anything I am missing, that I should try?? I do not know what else I could possible do.

I had mods, got rid of them all, did a clean install with no mods and still the exact same issues.

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

    It worked just fine. ๐Ÿ‘

The problem is that it is not very helpful in this case.
There are several DAI crash entries, all with a standard access violation code, which could literally be caused by anything.

One EA application is reported to crash with a memory leak warning.
Have you noticed this crash? If so, is the EA application crashing more often?

    Try to repair the game.

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

    If that don't helps:

Please preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.

    In clean boot:
    - Make sure the "EABackgroundService" remains enabled under point 3 in the guide.
    - Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
    - Make sure any CORSAIR/ASUS/Razor software is disable or deinstalled and that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
    - Make sure only your Mouse and keyboard are connected to the PC.

Nope, not a thing works - and as I mentioned in the post contacting EA was useless! They basically said wow that sucks nothing we can do.

If you are interested in really troubleshooting this problem create a new thread in the DAi section and attach DxDiag in text file format.

You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

  • @Nilyar1 @holger1405 I found a solution (to my exact problem) but it may not be pretty lol. So I was using my MacBook M1 Max and using Paralles Desktop to emulate Windows 11 to run PC games. It worked wonderfully with DAO and DA2 but unfortunately the graphics card is not compatible to run DAI successfully so it will always fail to launch and only run in the background. For this reason you only have one option: buy a PC with an NVIDIA graphics card that meets the minimum requirements. I ended up investing in a gaming laptop to future proof my games. Ran it on Steam/EA anpp and it worked wonderfully. So as much as I wanted to blame the EA app itโ€™s not their faultโ€ฆ this time. If you installed the game locally on Mac/a PC without the min requirements, make sure to transfer the game installation folder via an external drive to plug into a new laptop.

@dragonassasin2 My graphics card is compatible, and I was playing it for a whole week before this issue. Glad you were able to find a solution to your problem!
