I would also like to see this addressed. The implications of his romance being the one that is screwed over have soured me on the game, and I’m struggling to get through to the end. Add in the unstoppable background romance that’s hinted at as early as Inner Demons, and it’s a miserable experience.
His lack of content and the fact that he seems to care more about Neve than Rook is one thing, but the idea that they hard programmed him to shut down, but not Neve, would be an astounding kick in the teeth. I’m used to the male romance options getting shafted in other RPGs, but not by Dragon Age. I never expected it to be this bad. It makes me think that they didn’t record lines for that branching decision, so they just axed it entirely, but then why waste time pairing off a fan favorite at all?
I sincerely hope it’s a bug.

i completely agree. the Neve romance after Lucanis is locked for you for making the same decision she made is just insulting and cruel.

Yeah, I’m not exaggerating when I say that, if it’s actually meant to be like be like this, I wouldn’t have bought the game if I’d known beforehand. I would have cancelled my preorder and waited for something else to come out. I love the combat, I like the art style, I like quippy dialogue, but none of that is why I play BioWare games.
I’m fed up with games that give the options that appeal the most to straight men preferential treatment. The romances are literally the only thing BioWare does better than any other company, and they borked it. They just borked Lucanis the hardest, and in really baffling ways.
…which is why I’m hoping that getting locked out by the Act 1 choice is just a bug, so there’s at least that going for it. It doesn’t fix anything else, but it’d be something.

i'm right there with you. it also pisses me off that it's actually a really good opportunity for a deeper, more complex romance if you make a hard choice he obviously disagrees with. if it's supposed to be something to do with Spite, surely that should have showed in the dialogue somewhere, but i've seen nothing. the only dialogue i remember getting was him being like "people don't like what you did, but they didn't have to make the choice", or something like that, in Treviso afterwards. and the game tells me he's hardened, but doesn't tell me it's locked away his romance, just makes the heart options vanish and keeps me hoping they'll come back. and again, the romance would just make for good opportunities, but they seem to be missing a lot of those.
it's incredibly strange to me that they don't seem to have recorded any special dialogue for romance with this choice. like, not even a heart option that he rejects so it's clear you've locked the romance, which would be the bare minimum imo. and again, if it's about Spite, show me that. because from what we know from Tevinter Nights, Neve is a lot more involved with her city than Lucanis is, so why does she forgive me and he doesn't? either both romances can get locked away or neither can. and why would he romance her afterwards, if we made the same choice? another bare minimum would be blocking the romance with Neve too, in that case.
i wanted to play a shadow dragon and romance Lucanis, but i guess this game doesn't allow for that roleplaying. also hoping it's a bug, but i honestly don't have my hopes up, sadly.
