I had the same issue. Reloaded the last auto-save as the voiceover starts and waited on the stairs until I heard the monsters spawn in. Then able to play as intended.
THIS WORKED! thank you so much for sharing.
I waited at the bottom of the final staircase just before you can see the monsters and the blight boils. Heard them spawn in.
