This confused me initially as well, alongside the fact that, due to the nature of how weapon and armor appearances unlock, some will always remain locked by the end of the game. Not to mention that some appearances cannot be found no matter the class/faction.
On the topic of bows, I've noticed that quivers are not changed when applying an appearance to a bow, thus resulting in mis-matched armaments, e.g. an elven looking bow with an Antivan looking quiver. From what I have experienced, the only cases where quiver appearances are correctly applied are when using the "Bow of the Fallen Kingdom" from the Deluxe Edition, and the promotional "Watchful Bow".
The level of customisation in the game really is quite phenomenal. We have many truly unique designs. I can only see benefits from adding more options relating to clarity, communication and previewing in the wardrobe UI. In the case of actual bugs/errors regarding appearances unlocking (or failing to unlock), I do hope they can be fixed.
