Adding my Adult Sister to my EA Family
I've spent more money on The Sims franchise than most people spend on rent. And I think I should be able to share what I paid for with my family; whether they're my children or not. I've been sharing my account with my sister for as long as I've been playing the Sims, but now if I don't want our game files mixing together, she needs her own account. Now, I'm in my 30's, and my sister is three years younger than me, which makes her unquestionably an adult. Now, I could lie and add her to the family by faking the year she was born, but there's only a five-year window before that stops working. And personally, I don't feel like having to check to make sure my sister's fake age is still within range for her to play my stuff.
I've been trying to find a way to talk to an actual person through EA about this. I know that the company wants my sister to have to pay for each and every pack that she wants to play. But in my mind, why spend the money twice if someone in the family already owns what's being bought? I'm honestly willing to talk to whoever I need to in order for this to work in my favor. I'm not about to make my sister choose between college, her car, and a game. And I sure as heck can't afford to buy everything twice; I can barely afford to buy it once. So, how can I add my Adult Sister to my EA Family so I don't have to deal with this? I've heard through the grapevine that she has to "purchase" two games before we can sync. Does it have to be a purchase of a certain amount, or can I just download the base game and Grims Guitar and call it a day? Is this even true?
Hi @MarySunshine23,
While I understand where you're coming from, sharing your EA account with others, including family members, is something we strongly advise against, particularly the sections about account sharing and unauthorized distribution of content. According to our terms, accounts are intended for individual use, and sharing login details, games, or content across multiple people violates the terms, even if you are close family members. Here's a breakdown of what you're dealing with:
-
Account Sharing: We strongly advise against sharing an account with anyone else, including family members, even if you've purchased the content. The terms are clear that each individual should have their own EA account. See https://tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBTERMS/US/en/PC/#section1.
-
Family Sharing: We (at the moment, but thanks for the feedback) do not have a family-sharing system like some other platforms (e.g., Steam). Each person needs their own account and must purchase separate copies of the game or content to use them. See https://tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBTERMS/US/en/PC/#section2.
-
Faking Birthdate: Creating fake information, such as birthdates, is also something we strongly advise against when setting up an account. Even if it's for practical reasons, doing so could lead to account issues later. See https://tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBTERMS/US/en/PC/#section1.
See here for more information: https://www.ea.com/legal.
Hope this helps.
