Do we know what EA Background Service is?

I’ve been looking unsuccessfully to find what the purpose is of the EA Background App. The one that doesn’t turn off even if you exit the EA App. Sure it can be forced to close on a PC with task manager, not sure why I have to go through that many steps to close an app I’m not using. So what is it’s actual purpose, any body know?
