Hey there,
It’s actually fairly normal for the CPU to ramp up while downloading a game. This happens because the system is actively requesting resources from nearly every component in your PC during the process. It’s similar to what happens with other launchers like Steam as well. Once the download is finished, the CPU usage should return to normal. If you’re noticing it staying high for an extended period, it might be worth checking if there are any other processes running in the background. Let me know if it’s still an issue!

no, it´s not fairly normal. downloading via steam or epic or the webbrowser does not cause such high CPU usage. it´s only the EA app in the actual version. but please explain the technical details behind it, why a download with 200 MBits should cause more than 30% CPU Power of an actual 8-core CPU with 4GHz.

A lot of modern installers will compress the file on the server side and then decompress it in real time on the client side, causing this CPU usage spike that is seen. I see this on newer games on 50Mbps links all the time on my 14700KF.

Exactly that. :)

I have to disagree with people suggesting this is normal. While it might be normal for the EA App, it's far from normal for installers. Every other installer I use, Steam, Xbox, Gog, Blizzard does not suffer from this. The EA App is abnormal in that it stresses my CPU more than any game or any installer.
I take it since the thread I opened was closed and directed here that there is no solution to the problem.

If other people — and we — are saying this behaviour is normal, and you still feel unsure about it, that’s totally okay. But just to reassure you, this is pretty standard for how downloads are handled by most launchers like Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, and the EA app.
