Random EA Account linked to my Steam account

As the title. Have a really old Steam account (10+ years) which I just bought my first EA game on (NFS Heat, if it's relevant).

The EA app launched and showed a strange profile, which I initially assumed was something auto-generated to smooth the 3rd party account creation process.  I also got a notification that this EA account was banned. I thought it might be smart to make a new EA account and link it to my Steam account, but I discovered that banned accounts can't be unlinked (https://myaccount.ea.com/am/ui/connected-accounts).

Any ideas here? Don't want to forever lack access to online portions of legally purchased games...

  • To update anyone else googling for resolutions:
It looks like this occurred because of an EA account I forgot I created being hacked and the e-mail changed. I gave support additional e-mail addresses until one of them triggered the support person to send me a confirmation e-mail. Happily, I still had access to the e-mail account used to create my EA account, and they were able to change the e-mail associated with the hacked account back to one I controlled.

I am not yet through the ban appeal process. I will update when anything changes there.

    Final update:
Using the ban dispute feature didn't yield much success; I got an e-mail reply from EA which fixated on the "hacked" part of my problem, and told me to use help.ea.com to resolve it.

I went there, and a helpful representative resolved it for me. I did not learn what the reason, if any, behind the ban ever was, but my account was unbanned and restored to me. Best of luck to anyone else with the same issue.
