Trying to get EA Desktop to install on my PC after having to uninstall because it kept crashing my computer.
Except this time I'm trapped in a whole new, fresh Hell. Every time I boot up the Xbox app (Windows) I'll navigate to an EA Play title. I'll hit install and the Xbox app rightly registers that EA Desktop is not installed and offers to install it for me. It downloads something and I get a notification. At the same time, EA Desktop will pop up and say "Hey, we think this is already on your PC. Want us to fire it up?" To which the only option is for me to hit 'Launch' or 'Cancel'. Upon hitting 'Cancel' the programme closes and then I'm back at step one.
If I hit 'Launch' I get the following error message:
"Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop\EALauncher.exe'. Make sure you've typed the name correctly, then try again."
Meanwhile, the EA Desktop launcher is checking for updates continually with no end in sight.
I've gone to my program files and tried to delete everything with EA on it (Desktop would be the only thing anyways) and then I've rebooted the PC and tried again. Same result.
Then I opened control panel to try to eliminate anything left of it, to which Windows said there was nothing in the folders with EA Desktop, and I chose to remove it from the list. Then I rebooted and tried again. Same result.
Then I opened RegEdit and deleted the EA Desktop folder, thinking maybe it's just hung on to dear life for no apparent reason. Rebooted. Same Result.
What the heck am I supposed to do now?
I have a solution after HOURS of trial and error.
Firstly uninstall the Xbox App. Next, go to C:\Program Files and just delete the Electronic Arts folder to get rid of EA Desktop altogether (careful here if you have Origin installed, I don't so I don't need to watch out for anything else that corresponds to my EA games library or anything).
The next thing to do is go to EA.com, sign in, go to account settings, then connections. Unlink your Xbox account (you'll relink this again in a second).
REBOOT YOUR DAMNED PC!!!
Use your search bar to open up the Windows Store and download the Xbox app again. Attempt to download your EA game of choice and follow the normal process and it worked for me again, so I hope it works for you!
Good luck!
