Summarize your bug Can't uninstall EA Desktop from Add or Remove Programs
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Following the steps to uninstall the EA Desktop app from the Add or Remove Programs control panel, EA Desktop won't actually uninstall
What happens when the bug occurs? After the progress bar completes, the uninstall wizard closes, but EA Desktop is still installed. No error or any other indication of what happens.
What do you expect to see? The app to go away...
I was attempting to install and play SimCity (2013, coming from GamePass), but after installing EA Desktop, then SimCity, the game wouldn't load. The process would start, then freeze immediately and have to be closed from the Task Manager. After uninstalling it from Add/Remove Programs, I attempted to re-download it, but it wouldn't add to the download queue in EA Desktop. This is where I started having issues with the app itself.
One of the troubleshooting steps is to uninstall EA Desktop from Apps & Features in Windows. I click EA Desktop in the list, click Uninstall, click Uninstall again, and the EA Desktop Uninstaller opens. "Ready to uninstall EA Desktop? No hard feelings." it tells me (maybe not from your end...). I click UNINSTALL, and get "Initializing," then "Uninstalling the app..." and a progress bar. A few seconds later, the progress bar makes it to the end, and the uninstaller closes. The first time, I rebooted Windows, re-opened GamePass to see if I can re-install EA Desktop, but when I clicked on "SEE IN EA DESKTOP," it opened immediately as if it didn't uninstall! Re-opening Apps & Features, EA Desktop is still in the list of installed apps. Every time I try to uninstall, the same loop happens, and the app doesn't actually uninstall at all!

UPDATE - Work around:
After opening C:\Program Files\, I manually deleted the Electronic Arts folder (only the EA Desktop folder was in it). I had to also manually close EA Desktop background services from Task Manager to allow the folder to delete. Once removed, I was able to re-run the Add/Remove Programs uninstaller for EA Desktop, which now completed successfully and removed itself from the list of installed programs.

I just did this and it's not working at all. Every time I try to install it again, it says it's already installed. I dumped temp files, looked for anything associated to EA on my pc, and from what I found it didn't work.
Used control panel, and Revo, used CCleaner, nothing. It still says it's installed. This is aggravating, and EA support has been completely unhelpful.- 4 years ago
I’m having this same issue. I installed EA DESKTOP, and I was receiving error messages. So I uninstalled EA DESKTOP with the intention of reinstalling it. After uninstalling when I try to reinstall I get an error saying EA DESKTOP is already installed. When I click launch it opens my System 32 folder. I’ve even deleted all registry entries pertaining to EA DESKTOP, and same issue.
Is there a fix for this or just use Origin for now?

Cool thanks this worked for me
- 3 years ago@PyroDrake1134 thank god i saw this!!! I have been trying to uninstall the damn app due to a 500 error. said something mysterious was happening preventing me from playing games only. Waited for days. cleared cache, app repair and even tried to believe ea reps advice it was a network issue. last option I found was to deleta app. Saw this thread, saw your post, and it was because the background service was running. THANK YOU!!! I love you man!!! Think i will stick with Origin for a while.
