Summarize your bug EA Background service running without EA App, doesn't stop with app close. MULTI-YEAR BUG! Stop closing the threads to hide this spyware always running. All background service options are disabled within the EA App. Notification: Disabled In-Game overlay: Disabled Accessibility: Disabled Update Games Automatically: Disabled Enable Background Downloads: Disabled EABackgroundService startup set to MANUAL EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: A PROPERLY WORKING APP will start the service when the application is opened, then stop the service when the application is closed. Actual Behavior: EA app starts the service. However, once you exit the EA App, it does not properly stop the EABackgroundService. This is invalid service usage. There is no reason for this performance robbing spyware to run when nothing else EA is running'. Sadly the moderators here don't want to hear about it so the incorrectly close topics about it as Necro even the topics have been active and getting posts for years. This is just trying to hide the spyware for EA. Expect they will close this post as well rather than letting it be seen as the long running problem it has been now.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Install EA App. 2. Goto Services for Windows 3. Set EABackgroundService to Manual and Stop it if it is running. 4. Start the EA App. 5. Refresh Service and notice EABackgroundService has started (this is correct) 6. Change the settings as follows: Notification: Disabled In-Game overlay: Disabled Accessibility: Disabled Update Games Automatically: Disabled Enable Background Downloads: Disabled 7. Close and Exit the EA App 8. Refresh the running Windows Services. 9. Notice EABackground service is still running - INCORRECT BEHAVIOR
What happens when the bug occurs? EABackground service stays running even with the EA App closed and all background processing functionality disabled.
What do you expect to see? EABackground service should enter a stopped state when all background processing choices are disabled in the EA app and the EA app is closed/exited. Moderators should not close related topics to the bug until the bug is addressed.

Telling us how it's being used is not an acceptable answer to this problem. The problem is that it's running and can't be stopped, in my case, without going into Task Manager on Windows 11. That's simply not acceptable no matter how benign you think your reasons are. Please make it stop when the app is closed.

  • "This is a setting that can be turned off if you go to the Download tab in the settings of the EA app."

This is a lie it can not be turned off - the background process continues to run, even after explicitly turning it off with the above option.

Kiling the process and actually forcing it to be manual startup only in the srevices GUI in Windows 10 does not cause any loss of service/gaming etc. If there are updates to do, when running the EA * startup app may cause updates to be done - but this is what I expect fgrom a service, when I am running AI work loads I dont weant the EA idotic service to kick in and crank up my CPU load by 10% just because a game I played 5 years ago has a load of bug fixes at last ie an "update".

  • @EA_Leeuw It should not "sometimes run". When the app isn't in use, all services associated with it should not run and reduce computer performance.
  • Sorry if I replied with random letters, I mistakenly pressed "submit" instead of preview.

I just finished building a brand new PC where I wanted to play jedi survivor since with my old machine I just couldn't. The EA app works constantly in the background, nothing can stop it and if I try to manually end its tasks from the task manager, it simply immediately re-opens itself to the same background activity it always has.

Definitely doesn't feel right, and I will FOR SURE uninstall each EA related thing from my PC as soon as I finish the game.

Eating up over 120 MB of memory in the background is AWFUL to me, and I still can't believe their explanations have been either to fix the issue from the settings which doesn't work, or to say it is bugs which is also a complete LIE.

Funny how I stumbled upon a post from around 2 years ago where the community mod commented saying they were closing the thread because there were no more explanation needed. I find it extremely annoying and I'm considering checking my country's legislature for the matter because, frankly, it feels completely ILLEGAL.

It even stays open if the background services are off. That's malware-level stuff.

It's been years and this issue still isn't resolved. What exactly is background services doing while the app isn't running?
