EA app & Steam issue

Hi Guys,

I hope you can help!

I've had no luck with EA app since its release..

Since the release of the EA app (before the release of Battlefield 2042), I wasn't able to lunch any EA games (like Battlefield V at the time) after installing the EA app. I went back to Origin.

I've had lots of issues with Battlefield 2042 with game not launching or random crashing, some caused by Directx. However, I always managed to fix the issue (i.e. roll back the video driver) to run the game.

Recently, we've all been forced to download and install EA app (to replace Origin) which I kept ignoring until the release of Season 4. Since S4, you can't bypass the EA app installation window.



I installed EA app (hoping some improvements were made) and now, I can't lunch the game.

I was going through different options trying to get the game lunched and came across the message "your membership has expired".

So, it seems that the EA app doesn't recognise that I already own the game and have it installed on Steam.

I previously had EA membership on both Origin and Steam, however Battlefield 2042 was a direct purchase via Steam (pre-ordered).


I've put in just over 1200 hours of playtime and I'd love to play more. Especially now that S4 is out!

    I have reinstalled BF2042 on Steam and then EA app afterwards, it's now working fine.

    I spent 3 hours downloading it. However, the ammount of time spent trying to troubleshoot and workaround wasn't worth it.

    @Rokebo73 - Thank you so much for your help and efforts. Your first post got me there!

    @Rokebo73Thanks so much for sharing this and great work on your video!

    I tried this but I sellected "Always keep Origin up to date" when running Origin for the first time after mofifying "local" file. However, the "local" file keeps resetting, even though I saved the file correctly(I went in there to check and the inserted line keeps disappearing).

    I have reinstalled Origin again and it requires an update:

    1. Always keep Origin up to date
    2. Update Origin
    3. Don't update and use Origin in offline mode


    Does this matter in any way and which one should I choose?

    Okay, I had a different OriginSetup.exe to the one you were using.

    I have just downloaded OriginThinSetup.exe and will give it another try!

    Ok, here's an update.


    I reinstalled Origin again, this time using OriginThinSetup.exe

    No difference, however.

    Upon loging in (whilst I have the C:\ProgramData\Origin folder open), I can see a temp file being created in Origin folder "eccf1cbc293cc98cf4889e711b1b9764.ocl" and another folder called "NonOriginContentCache" (inside that folder there is another folder "89B72E6A545B008872B2F98BC5B0B970DB8CF062" but empty.

    When I go back into the "local" I can see that <Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/> is completely gone and replaced by a new one -  <Setting key="720256733a9116626b384843e9df9ef6" type="10" value="7e5210c3a5c8592c70b0596959884604"/>

    Upon lunching the game, the EA app installation comes up but I can cancell it, however nothing happens after that, the game does not lunch.

    @GlockyRoo  Uninstall origin with revouninstaller


    Delete Origin at C:\ProgramData
    Delete Origin at C:\Program Files (x86)
    Delete Origin at C:\Users\>USERNAME<\AppData\Local
    Delete Origin at C:\Users\>USERNAME<\AppData\Roaming

    use this version https://easyupload.io/x8gb02
    Link will expire in 30 days !!!!

    Install Origin , make sure other game platforms do not launch/boot with windows !!

    Ps enable to view HIDDEN FILES / FOLDERS / DRIVERS in File Explorer

    I also disabled everything in Origin , only Origin Helper-service is active

    I have followed your instructions step by step but unfortunatelly, it does the same as what I explained in my previous post.

    Somehow the local file is gettin reset every time I open Origin. ☹️
