Hi daydr3am3r87 Tio_SVD Yairsabag Boosted_JDM_EK
I’m going to step in here and clear up a few points, because there’s a mix of frustration and conflicting info in this thread.
First -- install location (important)
The EA app itself is designed to install on the system drive (typically C:). At the moment, there isn’t a supported way to install the app to a different drive.
You can choose where your games are installed, but the app and its core services need to remain on the system drive to function correctly.
I know that’s not what some of you want to hear, especially if you’re managing storage across multiple drives -- but I want to be clear, so no one ends up fighting the installer or running into repeated issues.
About the PowerShell workaround being shared
I see the method posted, and while it may appear to work in some cases, it’s not something we support.
What that means in practice:
- Updates may install into different version folders
- Shortcuts can break or point to older versions
- Repairs/reinstalls may fail or loop
- You can end up needing a full manual cleanup
So if you go that route, just be aware you’re likely to run into the exact kinds of issues described in this thread.
On uninstall / reinstall frustrations
Some of you are hitting reinstall loops or leftover files -- that’s valid feedback.
If you need to reset things properly:
- Uninstall the EA app
- Restart your PC
- Remove any remaining EA app folders (Program Files / ProgramData / AppData)
- Then reinstall fresh
This usually resolves detection issues where the installer thinks the app is still present.
On the broader frustration (performance, launching, licenses)
A few replies here are about separate issues (launch failures, connectivity, licenses not being recognised). Those aren’t caused by the install location, even though they’re happening at the same time.
If you’re running into those:
- Create a new thread for your error
- Call out the exact error message you’re seeing
- Let us know what game and platform (Steam/EA app) you’re launching through
We’ll tackle those individually so they don’t get lost in this thread.
I get why this is frustrating -- especially if you’re used to other launchers behaving differently -- but forcing unsupported setups tends to create more instability than it solves. If anything changes on install options in the future, we’ll share that here.
