Your "fix" won't work on the new EA app that replaced Origin since the EA app does not give an option to "repair" the installation. Just modify which is greyed out and uninstall. Nothing else. I never had this problem on Origin. But my wife and I both started having this problem the day the EA app was installed (without our permission) on our PCs by EA. As bad as Origin was, it was better than this POS.
@DuckDodgers58I understand that you are frustrated but please follow my instructions before posting.
You did not complete step 2. Uninstall.
The repair function is in the uninstaller, not add or remove programs itself. Try again and let me know if it worked.
For the record I liked origin too, it had some features that Desktop hasnt added back in like opening recent games from the minimised hidden icon in the task bar. It also has caused mass deauthentifcation of purchased games that cant be run because their programs require the discontinued origin or origin thin client to get through authentification, or something inane like that.
There are plenty of games affected. I cant play Anthem anymore! Some people might think thats funny but Im pissed. I bought that on release full price.
If that issue isn't priority one to fix at EA right now they're bonkers. Undermines the entire idea of being a publisher/distributor when your library is expiring like bad fruit due to poor housing conditions.

This did not work for me, unfortunately.
The app is going to need to be updated to get a fix.
This is just as annoying as the Downloads bug from a few months ago. A fix for that eventually came, after many weeks of waiting.
I expect a similar situation here.

Sorry to hear it XNINE. You're absolutly right.
While its great to dig up workarounds and solve these problems in unorthodox or forgotten ways, the problem being fixed internally is the only time when virtually all of the users will have a positive experience. Thanks for testing this fix out.
If it reverts to the bugged state dont be afraid to try again. Thats what my girlfriend had to do on her rig, just once so far.

Checking in to say that yesterday's latest EA update in fact did not fix this problem. I still have to log in every time I open the app.
I also have noticed that the app does not remember my Application settings - I frequently have to turn off the In Game Overlay, as the app will simply flip it back on for no reason. Same with the "share user data" toggle.
Over a month now, still no solution. Again, this would not be a problem if this app had a "Thin" version like Origin did, or, God Forbid, I could just launch my games with Steam like any reasonable game lets you. Not the case.
It's getting aggravating. There is a less than zero chance I would ever buy a game exclusively through this launcher, and it's already enough of a pain that it launches simultaneously with my Steam-owned EA games.
