EA App is incompatible with my laptop ... ?

Sooo ... what I see everywhere is that a PC with a 64 bit processor, and the EA crAPP should work.  Well, my pentium laptop has a 64 bit processor, running Win 10.  I can get Origin to load, but it immediately hard-stops to update to the EA crAPP.  I've run the troubleshooter, and it tells me that the crAPP is incompatible with my system.

So, I have a Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop with a Pentium 2 core 1.87gHz processor, 4 gig of RAM, and a 1T SSD.  It originally ran Win Vista, upgraded to WIn 7, then upgraded to Win 10.

When I installed the EA crAPP and ran it, I get a monolith-looking dialog box that is completely empty.  I googled it, and found the ridiculous suggestion to "choose edit" or some other nonsense, when the posted problem clearly stated the box ... like mine ... was empty.

So, my real question is ... How do I continue to use Origin?  You know ... because it'll run on my system?

  • Sims 4.  But it doesn't matter if the crAPP doesn't load.  I can get Origin to load, but then forces me to use the crAPP.

    Hi @t7si61g61c8f,

Even if the app somehow starts to work for you, it looks like your laptop won't be able to run The Sims 4 smoothly, as it doesn't meet the game's minimum system requirements. Here's why:

Processor (CPU): Your Intel Pentium Dual T2390 @ 1.86 GHz is much weaker than the required Intel Core i3-3220 or AMD Ryzen 3. This will cause major performance issues, as The Sims 4 needs a more powerful processor.

Memory (RAM): You have 4 GB of RAM, which is the bare minimum required to run the game. However, this might lead to very slow performance, especially if you're using custom content or expansions.

Graphics: Your laptop's Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset is far below the game's graphics requirement, which is an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better. It also lacks dedicated video memory and may not fully support the Pixel Shader 3.0 needed for the game to run properly.

However, could you perhaps share a screenshot of the empty dialogue box that you get?

  • So, to run The Sims 4, base game, no add-ons, lowest settings, and no CC, you need:

Processor (CPU): $73.99 (used) to $109.99 (new) (AMD Ryzen 3 2nd Gen with Radeon Graphics) OR $18.99 (used) to $100.00 (Intel core i3 3220)

    and

GPU Model: about $157.00 (Lowest I could find for a GeForce RTX)

That is, at the very cheapest (Using the used Intel core): $175.99
That is a month's worth of groceries or rent for some people. And that's not including:

    The actual game itself

A motherboard that can handle the upgraded hardwar

    The OS

    The power supply

    the tower/external hardware

an SSD or HDD to actually hold the game

Once you add those things, you might as well just buck up for a new computer. People aren't made of money and have to prioritize.

@t7si61g61c8f My best suggestion would be going to an older game (like Sims, Sims 2, or Sims 3). They're (from what I hear) better value and are likely to run better on older computers. That don't look the prettiest, but I'm someone who likes it when things function. Plus, there's NO REASON for the basegame Sims 4 to be that massive. It has a cartoonish aesthetic that is less cartoonish than Borderlands, and those games were made in 2009 ("Borderlands")
