EA App opens in Windows but its just a blank box. How can I play the games I buy

So, I buy very little from the Origin store. I used to like the Origin store, but now its the EA store. I don't know if its been rebuilt from the ground up, but its terrible.

But that's not even what my question is about. I'm not going to stand around and wait for EA to fix a simple game purchasing gateway that is preventing me from playing the games I've paid really good money for. No!

My question is simple - these games are available on Steam - How do I transfer my purchases to Steam without repurchasing them? There's nothing wrong with the games, the problem is the EA app DRM or failures in the App UI interface that prevent me from playing the games I've paid for. Its that simple. Steam works. Gog works. EA occasionally works. UPlay is a god-awful disaster and I think Ubisoft want to be the new EA. And to be fair, the games I want aren't EA games, they are Westwood games. And the other massive property I love is Origin games, which are also not EA games but was the name of the portal I bought these games through.

So, Its not as if I'm asking for you to fix your service. And as I've pointed out, this wasn't the service I purchased the games through, but both services were owned by EA and EA has clearly admitted defeat and sells these games through Steam now, so could you please transfer my licenses to my Steam account.

  • @revelation_now Oh! I managed to get the app to work, and now I'm up to 5 minutes of it trying to launch Command & Conquer all while saying "you can double click the icon to quick launch the game", and I thought "well, thats what I did. In what universe does it take 5 minutes to launch a game thats over 20 years old on modern hardware? This isn't even fast for a Commodore 64". Anyway I'll continue to wait.....

@revelation_now Oh, so eventually it told me my cloud storage was full. Thats grand. I have two games in Origin / EA and they are over 20 years old and my storage is full. Grand. And now apparently I need administrative permissions to play some games.... that worked in DOS... to launch the game. WTF. What century is this?

Turns out I couldn't open the game because the EA app is constantly using over 100MB/s from my disk for being open.

I don't know where this company went wrong, but I suspect it started when you hired programmers.

Oh, because the game failed to open I got a message saying it failed to upload data to the cloud. Well, at least that worked right. And it probably would have failed anyway, because as it had already told me (and I'm not sure the App is smart enough to be aware of this) but my cloud storage was already full. It told me that at the start. Everyone here already knows this, because I wrote it in a previous post.

This is not a good experience.
