The fact that they still haven\t fixed an issue this big is concerning. I'm on a brand new computer, and I used the app once to log in and download The Sims, and the 1st time I come back to actually play, I can't get anything to open and play. This shouldn't be happening imediately after installing.
I think I was having the same problem, and I think I found a solution. I found the EAUpdater app in the folder the launcher is in (easily navigated to by right clicking the desktop icon and opening file location), and used that. It updated, then I was able to open the EALauncher again.

This worked for me, thank you!
The fix that worked for me was to use the EA Uninstaller app and clicked repair when it asks do you want to uninstall or repair.
Hope this helps someone.
I find it irritating that software just doesn't load and gives you no indication as to why
