EA app wont start. Windows 7

EA app won´t open.

I´m running EA app on a Winows 7 (yes, I know). I only have the ultimate command and conquer collection on my account. Once the app opens and Im prompted to enter my credentials after loging it it immediately exists saying there was an unknown error. It gives me the option of restarting the app but if I do so it leaves again and the same error screen appears.

I have done everything: Removing the cache with the recovery app, manually too from AppData/Local, I have unistalled my games, the app, restarted the PC... Nothgin

I have lost all hope at this point. Is anyone having problems opening the app on Windwos 7? I had no problems with the old Origin

I have not  been able to play any of my games nor have i been able to log on to the EA App with significance since March 19 when EA updated the APP.

Since then, there has been i believe, one update to the APP itself but that did not help me at all, iIstill cant log-in. Furthermore, now I am unable to play offline as well, the APP says ii have to go online to renew my license error code 204 or 104 not sure which.

Check out this link also try to create a new user profile in windows and run the ea app from there, might help. Good luck to you and i hope EA fixes this issue.

  • Same here.

    Played just fine, no issues.

Noticed that the app had again reset it's language, so I changed it to english. Since then it's crashing.

    Things I've tried:

    • relaunching it from the crash message/reporter (looking through the forum someone said it works for them after 4 to 10 tries)
    • stopped all EA related processes and services and tried again. (I can see that the app starts, launches a couple child processes, then ends)
    • quit and manually restarted it (from the start menu, from the EALauncher.exe in the install directory, from the EADesktop.exe in the same directory)
    • tried to revert the language chance (using the user_(bunchofnumbers).ini in appdata. there is an entry called "location.language=" followed by an abbreviation of a language)
    • deleted said user profile file (it launches and asks again for login, but crashes after I enter my data)
    • used the repair app
    • ran the EALauncher.exe and EADesktop.exe as admin.
    • downloaded and installed the app again
    • cleared temp files
    • deleted all cache files manually
    • deleted everything in %appdata% (in the "EADesktop", "EALaunchHelper" and "Electronic Arts\EA Desktop" directories)
    • copied the files over from a machine where it works
    • disconnected my network (it launches to a screen that says it has no connection, tries to reconnect, and tells me I can play games that don't need internet, followed by a very simple list of the games installed. When I reconnect it tells me I'm back online and need to restart the app to get access to online features, bu that only brings me back to the crash)
    • manually ran the EAUpdater. in the install directory (It found an up date and installed it, but that didn't change anything)

And the most confusing thing is that it worked and even ran an update before it stated crashing. It started crashing after I changed the language, and even reverting that setting, removing all userdata or reinstalling it keeps crashing. And only on that one machine.

Okay, looking at the logfile, the thing that springs out to me is this line

    Type: ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xffffffffffffffff

@lordmogul89 Thanks for your extensive testing to try and make the APP somehow work and the goodwill you showed the EA gaming community by documenting it here 🙂 I for one really appreciate it. I wish you good fortune in the hope EA will get you back to gaming.
Have you tried creating a new user profile in windows and running the APP from there? Didn't work for me FYI

EA App revisions since the March 19 update that don't work for me:
    13.162.0-5675-4104067fb
    13.166.0-5679-ee3c5ee6d
    13.173.0-5686-b58b03976
  • I am currently experiencing the same problem on Win10. Everything was working fine right up to the moment it stopped working.

The EA app was running in the background (minimized to taskbar) while I was watching random YouTube vids. Steam was running similarly too. PC had a BSOD. Completely unrelated to the EA app.

    After restart, Steam works fine.

However, the EA App is stuck in a loop with the 'Restart App' popup. It throws up a total of 3 popups EVERY time it attempts a restart. After a few times of clicking on the 'Exit' button on 2 and restarting from 1 pop up, now it shows 2 pop ups every restart cycle. After ~50 attempts to go from 2 pop ups to 1, I gave up 😞

Even gives a popup while uninstalling the EA app. But waiting it out finally results in a successful uninstall.

Did all the thing mentioned in the thread - uninstall clear cache, delete all related files, etc, etc. Even removed all registry entries related to EA. At this point, Only option left seems to be reinstalling Windows.

Any solution available? Only EA game I have installed is ME3 for occasional multiplayer.

EDIT - Since I am crazy enough to do it, I reinstalled windows. Fresh Install, wiped my original OS drive. EA App still doesn't work. so I guess it means that it is DEFINITELY an error with the app, and not your PC.

  • i have the same problem, it started today and i contact the EA for help they told me they will look into it so i gues we need to wait, hopefully no much rs

Thanks  to CogWheel for re-installing Windows and doing that hard step and posting your results here, now i don't have to do that step. Appreciate that :=)

The only change ive noticed is that now i can play my games offline. Other than that the APP is still crashing for me.

EA App revisions since the March 19 update that don't still work for me:

    13.162.0-5675-4104067fb
    13.166.0-5679-ee3c5ee6d        - 03.04.2024
    13.173.0-5686-b58b03976        - 09.04.2024
    13.175.0-5688-261afc07f          - 10.04.2024
    13.178.0-5691-ea454d7bf         - 15.04.2024
    13.180.0-5693-4d69cf940         - 16.04.2024

Here's to hoping that EA will fix it soon

    POSSIBLE FIX

I was using English as my language but my country is Germany.

When i switched the language to German to match my country, it fixed it for me.

So yes, it had to do with the languages for me.

Thank you all very much for your help and best wishes to yourselves and your families 👍
