The local.xml trick does not work for me anymore. I've spent hundreds of dollars in the Sims and it's dlc, only for it to be locked off. Very crummy EA.😠

ORIGIN works well for me, for what it's needed (certify the player to load the games he owns), and I see no reason in the world to plague the PC with other USELESS software!
I paid for these ****** games, let me use them in peace, I don't need anything else, neither advertising, nor "social media", nor anything! Just playing in peace with my ****** games!
And leave MY PC alone... it's mine not yours! You're getting more and more arrogant with all this add-on software to video games!@dungchungkey
EA has really changed the way of working on its EXEs, they no longer read the "local.xml" file, because I changed the Windows rights making it untouchable... it just doesn't read it anymore. He changes it if he can, otherwise he ignores it.
Beautiful demonstration of arrogance and disinterest for customers!
- 3 years agoUPDATED GUIDE FOR RETURNING TO ORIGIN
1) Uninstall your Origin, because the new patch (10.5.122) from EA broke everything again
2) Download the Origin Offline Installer (https://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe)
3) Install, be sure to remove the checkboxes from the paragraphs about "auto update"
4) After installation DO NOT log in to your account. Go to "C:\ProgramData\Origin" (attention, the folder "ProgramData" will be hidden by default), find there and open in Notepad (or any other text editor) file "local.xml", the last line there will be </Settings>, BETWEEN this line add this line
(you will most likely need to add an empty line by pressing Enter first)
<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/>
5) Delete the three files called "OriginThinSetupInternal.exe" which are located at THREE LOCATIONS
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin
C:\ProgramData\Origin
C:\ProgramData\Origin\SelfUpdate\Staged
6) Log in to your Origin account, now everything should work
There may be a little update notification on top of Origin window, just don't click on it (you can close it by clicking on the cross)- 3 years ago
Thank you. Do we still mark the xml file as read only?
- 3 years ago@deblake60 Personally, I never did that, everything was fine as it was

@Ha_DHuWe My games are downloading in Origin!! Thank you so much! I have been trying for over a month to get access to my games. I've posted on EA Help, and contacted support multiple times and they were not able to resolve the issue. It's been so frustrating not being able to play the games I've paid for. Thank you for sharing this work around! You are the best!! I just wish the EA App worked and EA provided proper support instead of relying on their users to figure it out!
- 3 years ago@Ha_DHuWe Tried your method and it worked for me for now. But I don't trust EA to not pull something.
