1) Uninstall your Origin, because the new patch (10.5.122) from EA broke everything again
2) Download the Origin Offline Installer (https://download.dm.origin.com/origin/live/OriginSetup.exe)
3) Install, be sure to remove the checkboxes from the paragraphs about "auto update"
4) After installation DO NOT log in to your account. Go to "C:\ProgramData\Origin" (attention, the folder "ProgramData" will be hidden by default), find there and open in Notepad (or any other text editor) file "local.xml", the last line there will be </Settings>, BETWEEN this line add this line
(you will most likely need to add an empty line by pressing Enter first)
<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true"/>
5) Delete the three files called "OriginThinSetupInternal.exe" which are located at THREE LOCATIONS
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin
C:\ProgramData\Origin
C:\ProgramData\Origin\SelfUpdate\Staged
6) Log in to your Origin account, now everything should work
There may be a little update notification on top of Origin window, just don't click on it (you can close it by clicking on the cross)

Thank you. Do we still mark the xml file as read only?
- 3 years ago@deblake60 Personally, I never did that, everything was fine as it was

So far so good. It tells me I'm offline, but that's no big deal to me.

@Ha_DHuWe My games are downloading in Origin!! Thank you so much! I have been trying for over a month to get access to my games. I've posted on EA Help, and contacted support multiple times and they were not able to resolve the issue. It's been so frustrating not being able to play the games I've paid for. Thank you for sharing this work around! You are the best!! I just wish the EA App worked and EA provided proper support instead of relying on their users to figure it out!
- 3 years ago@Ha_DHuWe Tried your method and it worked for me for now. But I don't trust EA to not pull something.

@Ha_DHuWe Legend, thanks for updating us. EA App is so abysmally bad. EA need to fix a lot before I'll even consider switching over. Origin just works, it's stable and the layout is just better.
I also set the xml to read only, works fine so far.- 3 years ago
Things were working for me following the XML edit, but this evening, the login changed.
Since the XML change, clicking the Game Icon took me straight to the Game.
But it changed this evening, and an Origin Screen appeared, and said it needs to upgrade. It gave me three choices:
⚽ Keep Origin Up to Date.
🏈 Upgrade Only and Play Online.
🏀 Don't Upgrade and Run Offline.
Obviously, I went for 🏀, and then it asked me for my Origin Login.
I gave it my usual Origin details, and I was allowed to get to the Game.
However, this is not a good sign. It suggests more changes will be made.
I do not want any App or Login Upgrades, I just want to play the Game with as little heard from Origin or EA as possible, preferably just the once when I first install!
I suspect this will stop working soon, but I am still OK, so far. I will look at some of the suggestions if it falls over again.
It's as if EA is desperate to find new ways to stop me playing the Game that I have paid for.

EA/ORIGIN...
Put that APP where the Sun never beats!!!
Let us play with "good old Origin" in peace!
Take care of the cheaters, rather than breaking the "games" of us honest users !!!!!

Thank you with all my heart. It's only for people like you that I can still play these cool games run by these EA **** ****s. Thanks again.

@Ha_DHuWe you, you're a god darn hero!
Seriously, EA stop trying to force the EA app onto me, It's a straight up downgrade from Origin, which in on itself is already pretty bad in comparison to the likes of Steam even just considering all the functionality around installing and running games and leaving out all the built in community stuff, Origin is bad, but the EA app is even worse.
Do better, you got the wealth to pull it off so act like it! - Mardoin693 years agoNew Vanguard
Thanks for the update on the method for keeping the Origin client.
Even having done the steps I posted (in many places) in this forum....and having automatic updates 'Disabled' in settings...EA tried to mess us up again and my Origin client wanted to update.
So, I had to choose the stay 'Offline' and not update or else my client would of been botched all over again.
Ofc, staying in 'Offline' mode means ppl can't download their games.....which is super effed up since we paid for them in the first place.
But, since I had already done all the steps from my previous solution, I had only needed to delete the OriginThinSetupInternal.exe in 2 locations...... which were;
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin
C:\ProgramData\Origin\SelfUpdate\StagedSo, for anyone else that's already followed my guide on adding the line into the 'local.xml' file;
<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true" />
Then you should only need to do what I've posted here...about NOT letting Origin client update and deleting those files in the two locations.
Now you should be able to Start Origin Client normally again.......till EA kicks us in the teeth again at least.
- 3 years ago@Mardoin69 Didn't work for me. The original method did before. EA sure likes to spend its time screwing players over one way or another. Players choosing origin doesn't impact their sales whatsoever. The fact that they're so determined to shove this crap alternative onto windows players when it's so unstable and can't handle the users they forced onto it to download even an update to one game. It's disgusting, shameless and embarrassing.

At everyone......
And, ofc, they're still trying to kill the Origin client. Just got a popup today about upgrading again. But, you need to be closing those out and NOT accepting their upgrade. I then had to delete those 'OriginThinSetupInternal.exe's again. Apparently, they're going to keep trying to lock us out of a perfectly decent working client to try an force us into their newer invasive client.
@NikkiXoLynnBecause this is where people go to find info....to get help with the Origin client cuz they want it instead of that junk EA client....which is why I came here in the first place. Sure....they'll keep coming up with invasive ways to try an force us out of the Origin client. And, we'll have to keep digging through files and modifying / deleting them. But, they'd of done it anyway....even if we hadn't been posting here. It doesn't help in here though when ppl cue the staff using the AT <staff-name> functions like we use for replying to each other.
