I can't download The Sims 4 on my Mac's external hard drive

I tried downloading The Sims 4 on my Macbook Air 2017 (macOS Monterey), but I did not have enough storage, so I decided to download the game on an external hard drive. As I clicked download, the pop up window appeared, asking me to grant full disk access for the EA App. I did that, but the game still wouldn't download, it still said "something went wrong" in the download field, when I tried to download the game again, I got the same pop up window about granting full disk access, even though the access was already granted. I tried restarting the app, restarting the system preferences, restarting my mac, unplugging the external hard drive, clearing cache, but nothing worked. What more can I do?
