I can't play my game since patch, play button greyed out on ea app

Hi, ever since latest patch for sims 4, I no longer have access to my game as the play button on ea app is totally greyed out. I want my game back please. And when I try to start the game from desktop a pop-up says the game needs an update, yet the update has already installed and the app verifies this. I get no option to do a game repair either. This is insanity, I hate the EA app, I want Origin back! EA, please STOP trying to fix things that aren't broken, you obviously screwed-up forcing us to use the app vs origin!
