Low FPS in EA Desktop App

Hi,

when I start the application the framerate of my entire system drops to something that feels like 30fps. This is especially noticeable on my 120hz screen with freesync enabled. When I unfocus the app, my framerate in Windows stabilises to 120 again. When I click on the EA desktop app, it drops again. This is especially noticeable, when moving windows around. My webbrowser feels really smooth, but moving around the EA Desktop window is really stuttery.

My system specs are:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600x

32 GB RAM

GTX 1070 with driver version 461.92

    Add in a couple more Nvidia specific changes to make it much smoother:

    Same steps as original commenter:

    1. Open Nvidia Control Panel
    2. Manage 3D Settings
    3. Program Settings
    4. Add
    5. Find and Select "eadesktop.exe"

    Options to change for EA Desktop specifically:

    1. Monitor Technology
      1. Fixed Refresh
    2. Max Frame Rate
      1. Just below your monitors max (143 for a 144hz monitor)
    3. Preferred Refresh Rate
      1. Application-controlled
    4. Vertical Sync
      1. Off or Fast

    Apply all changes in Nvidia Control Panel and restart the EA Desktop App.

    For me personally: these changes force the EA Desktop App to run at my monitors max refresh rate (1440p 144hz)

    @jackyallstar on further testing it seemed to have only happened when i installed the program and was in the sign in window the first time. after repeated re-launches and signing in manually again i do not encounter this problem anymore.

    Tough quirk to reproduce and therefore track down it seems

    @jackyallstar further testing indicates it consistently occurs when downloading which makes the framerate jump randomly in the range from 30 to 60fps. no hardware is maxed out according to my performance monitors.

    maybe the patcher (delta patcher?) is tied into the program main loop of the desktop application making the desktop app have unstable framerates? i'm just guessing here.

    @jackyallstar after minimising to systemtray and reopening it seems the unstable framerate is gone again.

    you guys definitely have a interesting inconsistency in the back-end going on :P

    @jackyallstar last report, then i'm done spamming:P

    when the unstable framerate occurs while downloading and having the desktop app active, if i stop moving my mouse the framerate drops down to 11, but when i move my mouse it ramps up and determined by the amount of mouse activity i can get the fps around 60fps.

    god this bug is awesome:P makes me want to dig into the code and discover it! 🙂

    Guys, i have same problem. Acer predator helios 300 ph315-52 (gtx 1660ti) and i can't get more 50FPS

    This has been driving me insane too! Mainly noticeable on my 165hz monitor.

    Thanks for all the feedback everyone, I have made the devs aware that some players are having a low FPS when the EA Desktop App in in focus.

    Signed into my account here to say that I'm having this issue as well. Thought it was an HDR issue at first, but it still exists after turning HDR off and restarting.

    @EA_Jason here to contribute to issue tracking; just wanted to let you know that I have the same (very) low fps issue when EA Desktop is focused (goes away when another application is focused) on two computers and confirmed that 7 of my friends who use the application (literally everyone I asked) have the exact same issue. Thanks for tracking this thread and communicating with the devs!
