Re: EA app error "DisplayName field missing from registry"

Hey @UrDaddison,

Could you perhaps try the following troubleshooting steps and let us know if you're still running into the issue?

  1. Close/Exit the EA app.

  2. Open Windows File Explorer and copy/paste* this 'url' into the address bar: C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License.

    1. *If you can't copy/paste this 'url', you can enable the "View hidden files and folders in Windows" option via these steps and navigate to the folder manually.
  3. In the "License" folder, where you should be if you've followed the above-shared stepsdelete all files that you can see*.

    1. *If you can't see any, please enable the "View hidden files and folders in Windows" option via these steps.
  4. Open the EA app again and perform an App Recovery (clear cache).

  5. Try to launch the game again, the game should now work.

  • I followed your instructions, twice, and it didn't work. The popup still shows up.

  • Didn't work. I am still getting the error. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and Origin and neither worked to allow me to access my games. I am login on origin and online and have it verified.

  • But what does that do? I am having this happen to me as well and will try this later. However, I feel like you guys should make videos on issues like this. If there are video instructions, please let me know.

Subject: Same Issue with Titanfall 2 - Unable to Activate Game

    Hey @UrDaddison,

I’m experiencing the same issue with Titanfall 2 where I can’t activate the game through the EA app. I’ve gone through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, and here’s what I’ve tried so far:

    Steps Taken:

    1. Cleared Cache: Followed the suggestion to clear the EA app's cache (App Recovery).
    2. Checked License Folder: Went to C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License (and made sure I had "View hidden files" enabled), but the folder was empty. Even when I checked C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License, it was still empty.
    3. Tried Reinstalling: Reinstalled the EA app and logged in again, but the issue persisted.
    4. Checked Antivirus/Firewall: I checked to see if my firewall or antivirus (including McAfee) was blocking the app, but I didn’t find any clear conflicts.
    5. Attempted Activation: Even when I try to activate the game manually, it gives the error "DisplayName missing from registry" and prompts me to enter a product key.
    6. Reinstalled the Game: I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Titanfall 2 from Steam, but the issue is still unresolved.

    Current Status:

Unfortunately, none of the above methods resolved the issue, and I’m still unable to activate or play Titanfall 2. I’m starting to think this might be a server-side issue or some kind of bug that needs further attention from EA support.

Have you had any luck with getting it to work or receiving any updates? Let me know if you’ve found any additional troubleshooting that works!

    Thanks,
    BOSSBOMBER007

I didn't have anything in the License directory until I ran the EA app as an administrator. I launched my game and it didn't ask me to log in again. Hopefully that's a permanent fix and that it helps someone else, too.
