Sims 4 update is taking more than 3 hours.

The game automatically began updating at around 12pm, it's currently 15:15 and it's on 5%. 
my PC is around 5 years old, and the game hasn't been running the best recently. But it surely shouldn't take this long? 
can anyone recommend some tips to improve? 
my PC is right next to my wifi router
