The “In-game” status is handled by the EA app’s presence system, and we’ve seen cases where the app launches games correctly but doesn’t update that status. Since it’s happening across multiple statuses (Online/Away) and started suddenly, it points more toward a client or backend sync issue rather than your setup or connection.
A couple of things you can still try, just in case:

I’ve encountered a similar issue in the past couple of weeks, and it remains present. My status stays as the green online icon even when I launch a game. The one I usually play is EA Star Wars Battlefront 2, but I’ve noticed the same thing happens in Battlefront 1. This issue is also affecting a lot of my friends. When I bring up the overlay via shift F1, as well as when I directly check my friends list in the game menu, they only display with the green online symbol even though they’re actually in-game. Interestingly, if I click on their name the join button still comes up if they’re in a match. I also notice that I myself only show as online and not in-game if I bring up the shift F1 overlay while I’m in-game.
Fixes I’ve attempted include going offline then back online, logging out and back in, clearing the app cache, launching the game via the app launcher rather than the desktop link, marking myself invisible then changing back to online, and completely reinstalling the app. I’ve also tried logging in with a different account, and the same issue has persisted.
I’m having this same issue, where my in-game friends are only showing as “online,” and everyone I’ve talked to who also plays Battlefront 2 is having this issue as well.
