Steam Overlay now leaves game 'frozen' briefly

Summarize your bug Mass Effect: Legendary Edition remaining frozen briefly after closing Steam Overlay
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? With the EA App being the launcher (either from Steam or the App itself), open Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and open either one of the three games. Once the game is launched, at any point open the Steam Overlay and the game should pause in the background. After closing the Steam Overlay, the game should remain paused for an extra 2-3 seconds, which is the issue being reported.
What happens when the bug occurs? When playing a game from the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, opening the Steam In-Game Overlay pauses the game as expected and works fine, but when closing the overlay, the game will remain in this paused state for an extra 2-3 seconds afterwards. This was never an issue when using Origin before the EA App as it would unpause immediately after closing the Steam Overlay, and now when using the EA App, this bug now happens everytime I close the Steam Overlay.
What do you expect to see? The game should unpause as soon as the Steam Overlay is closed, and not a couple of seconds after the fact.
This issue has only been happening since the EA App has been the application that launches alongside Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, as beforehand when using Origin this issue had never occured. I am unsure whether this affects other EA App games as well, as ME:LE is the only EA App game I have.
