What helped me was performing a "clear cache": https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
From the EA Desktop app
Select the three dashes in the far-left corner of EA Desktop.
Scroll to Help.
Click App recovery.
Select Clear cache.

Started having this problem yesterday.

Cannot launch any games, cannot view my library, get a message about "things are taking a little longer" etc.

A temporary fix was to repair the installation and reboot the PC. But the very next day the problem came back. I do not expect to have to repair the installation and reboot the PC on a daily basis.

What an absolute piece of gratuitous worse-than-worthless garbage.

PS -- the comments talking about ending processes in the task manager are irrelevant. When I close the app, there are no EA-related processes persisting in the background. The problem lies somewhere else.

Just an unprecedentedly bad platform.
