Unable to log in due to 2-auth factor

I need help. I am locked out of my old EA account because the primary email no longer exists, which is asking me to verify my account by sending me verification the code to my old email address, which doesn't exist anymore. The EA Help website is forcing me to log in to open a ticket, which I cannot do. My account is linked to Steam and Google. Can you help me swap the email? I can still log into my EA app with the correct username and password but cannot access my old email linked to that account.

Yeah, the automated chatbot is notoriously unhelpful for complex issues like this. It’s designed for simple password resets, not full account recovery where you need to verify CD keys, old emails, and linked accounts.

About the weekend: live chat availability depends heavily on your region and time zone (for example, here in Italy it’s closed right now). It might be offline at the moment, but you should still be able to open an email ticket, and that’s enough to get your case into the queue for a real human to review.

Here’s exactly how to bypass the bot and open a real support ticket:

    1. Log in to help.ea.com using your new/temporary EA account.
    2. Scroll down the homepage until you reach the “Help by topic” section.
    3. Click on the tile called “EA Account support.”
    4.  Choose one of these options:

(Even if your account isn’t hacked, that second option is a known workaround, it forces the site to show the real contact form instead of looping you back into the bot.)

    1. Scroll past all the suggested articles. At the very bottom, you should see Contact Us, Email Us, or Chat with Us.
    2. If Live Chat is closed, select Email. This still sends your case to a human advisor.
    3. In the description box, include all the proof you already have:

    • EA ID
    • Linked Steam ID
    • Date of Birth
    • CD keys / purchase receipts
    • Old email address
    • Any other identifying info

Since you already have strong proof of ownership, you’re in a very good position. Once the ticket is submitted, it’s just a matter of waiting for an advisor to pick it up and manually update the email on your main account.

  • The EA chatbot didn't help much, as it didn't provide relevant assistance. Yes, I know my EA ID, linked Steam ID, DOB, and I got a few CD keys to prove I'm the legal owner of that locked account. But I wish I knew how to open a support ticket, as I cannot seem to find how from EA Help. I take it human live chat is closed on weekends?

  • Hi Hunter-Backup,

Getting locked out because of a dead email and a 2FA loop is incredibly frustrating.

First, just to set expectations: for security and privacy reasons, no one here on the forums (not even EA Community Managers) can manually change your email or bypass 2FA. Only the official EA Support team can do that.

Here’s the best way to break the loop and actually reach a human:

    1. Create a temporary EA account Since the EA Help website forces you to log in to open a ticket, the easiest workaround is to create a brand‑new EA account using a working email address.

    2. Open the ticket Log into EA Help with that new account, select a game or “EA app,” and choose the topic “Account Security” or “I can’t log in.” Start a live chat or open an email case.

    3. Explain the situation Tell the advisor that you’re contacting them from a secondary account because your main account is locked behind a deleted email address.

    4. What you should prepare To verify ownership and allow them to swap the email on your main account, they will ask for some information. Having this ready will speed things up:

    • The old (now dead) email linked to the locked account
    • Your EA ID / Username
    • Your linked Steam ID
    • The Date of Birth registered on the account
    • Your IP address, and any proof of purchase (receipts, CD keys, transaction history)

It may take a bit of back‑and‑forth, but as long as you can provide enough proof of ownership, the support team will help you recover the account and update the email.

If you need an official reference while preparing your case, EA also provides a detailed guide on recovering locked or compromised accounts.
Even though your account isn’t hacked, the verification steps and ownership checks described there are the same ones Support will use for email recovery. It can help you understand what information they’ll ask for and speed up the process.

    Best of luck Hunter!
