Unable to update game

Every time I try to update my Sims 4 game, it won't let me do it. It keeps saying there's an error and that it won't download. I have tried going offline to see if I can access the Sims 4 from there, but even when I click the play button, it won't open. I am able to open my Sims 3 game offline however. Sometimes my EA app will open, but if I quit and open it again, it says it cannot connect to servers and I have to restart my mac if I want to open the EA app again. Anyone got any ideas about how to play or update my game?
