Can only link one Amazon account ever??

This is so stupid.  I linked my account to an Amazon account that my former spouse and I shared, but it was her login. We divorced. So I cannot link a new Amazon account? That's ridiculous! Such a discourtesy to customers.  So now I either have to trash my EA account and lose all my progress on all my games, and all my games potentially, if I ever needed a linked amazon account?  I cant possibly think why this is even a thing? What is so special about the amazon link that it can only be done once in the accounts lifetime??
