Fraudulent EA account linked to my Steam since 2022 — 6 cases, no fix
How it happened
- 26 May 2022 — FIFA 22 added to my Steam account (Steam ID <removed>)
- 20 Aug 2022 — I received a Steam account recovery email written in Russian, referencing a recovery attempt from Vilniaus Apskritis, Lithuania. Neither the language nor the location is mine.
- 30 Aug 2022 — coordinated takeover across my accounts in a single day: Steam Guard authenticator recovery started and device changed, Steam email address change request, plus email changes on Riot and PayPal.
- 2 Sep 2022 — new Twitch and Amazon accounts created against my email address.
During this period my EA account was disconnected from my Steam account and a third party’s EA account was connected in its place. I recovered my email and my Steam account. The fraudulent EA connection is still active four years later.
What support has told me
EA advised me to obtain the linked EA account ID from Steam Support. I did. Steam Support has confirmed in writing, twice, that they hold no EA account data and cannot view or modify EA account connections, because that record is stored externally to Steam.
I was then told by EA that only the owner of the connected EA account can request an unlink, for security reasons. I understand that policy protects legitimate connections. Applied here it means a connection created through a criminal compromise is permanent, because the only person who could reverse it is the person who committed the compromise.
One agent also searched by display name rather than searching platform-connection records by Steam ID, which is what I had asked for.
My case history
- 150167471 — 11 Jul 2023 — routed to a Game Advisor, unresolved
- 251292018 — 2 Aug 2026 — closed
- 251320886 — 20 Aug 2026 — closed
- 251324405 — 26 Aug 2026 — no fix available
- 253502237 — 26 Aug 2026 — marked “no fix available” at 4:00pm, then at 4:58pm an agent told me it had been transferred to a dedicated team who would contact me within 72 hours
What I am asking for
Search EA’s platform-connection records for Steam ID <removed>, identify the EA account currently connected to it, and remove that connection so I can connect my own account.
I can evidence ownership of the Steam account and of my own EA account. The party I cannot produce is the one who committed the compromise, which is why I am reporting this rather than resolving it myself.
Could a moderator please help get this in front of a team with the tools to action platform disconnections in compromise cases.
[CM edit - removed Steam ID for account security]
