Re: Codies please let the Ai run free

@ScarDuck14 I'm thinking the same since the game launched, and this new patch didn`t solve the underlaying issue with the AI.

When you compound AI insane acceleration abilities, with the difficulties the human player has to deal on the same circumstances (sudden snap oversteer when applying throttle, without any sign of it through the FFB system) it feels like you are playing a game with a bunch of cheaters.

Then you have the other problems AI has, such us no tyre temperature problems, apparently always available ERS power, super grip on wet conditions, difficulty level imbalances, etc.

Devs also were unable to fully fix the development programmes on Career. Last race at Baku, post patch 1.08, AI level at 65%, I miserably failed the Qualy programme because the game expected an impossible for my skill lap time, only to end up qualifying 10th for the race afterwards, with the same lap time I did on the previous programme.

As per the inconsistent AI level track to track, and in between game modes, I use those programmes to gauge the desired AI skill level in practice, but such a mission is impossible if we face inconsistencies on those too.

Then you have the mid race game crashes on VR.. It's simply unplayable at this time for me.

    @nangu22Just did Jeddah qualifying program wanted 7th I got. 1st. Come qualifying was even faster. Qualified 8th a second behind pole🤷‍♂️

    Also the ai difficulty point difference from Bahrain to Jeddah is about 10 points. Jeddah being the easier.  That’s so wrong. 

    This is what Codemasters do:  it’s what reviews and players  have always raved about.

    @ScarDuck14 Yep, it's not consistent at all. I forgot to mention that on my programme at Baku, they wanted 15th as best result, and 19th as worst.

    I failed, so they predicted 20th as my expected Q position. I advanced to Q3 and got 10th with a similar lap time I did on that programme, go figure.

    @ScarDuck14 Jeddah is difficult though with the track being far more forgiving for going on kerbs than it is IRL which leads to players attacking the corners much more than the AI do..

    But yes its a known problem that the AI is inconsistent especially at lower difficulties

    @nangu22 What’s bizarre is race to race in last years game the ai would need abit off tweaking. But never once had a issue session to session. It’s was well balanced and worked as youd expect. How they managed to make it this unbalanced is perplexing.

    Only thought I have which is generally the issue. New coder(as in new to that department) not been properly briefed or just not familiar with how previous coder coded.

    Because theirs nothing substantially different between sessions compared with previous titles.

    @ScarDuck14 I'm not familiar with previous year's games, so I can't comment on that. Last game I bought was F1 2016, and I bought F1 22 because they added VR.

    My "conspirancy theory" is they didn't reworked the AI for this year new handling and physics models. May be they hoped last year AI code would work just modifying some values on the input parameters. We have this ugly unbalanced AI as a result.

    On another note about AI imbalance against the player, I noticed another "AI cheat" situation on my last 100% race at Baku I mentioned before.

    On the very first laps, I have to be very cautious at the two high speed turns sector before the main long straight. Full tank and semi cold mediums made this section of the track tricky to go full throttle without losing the rear end of the car, so I have to lift the throttle a little to negotiate those fast left/right turns without losing control.

    AI, in turn, fly past that section of the track full throttle, just like in Qualy, with supposedly full tank and even with supposedly cold HARD tyres.

    I feel cheated every time I start this game LOL

    I've lost confidence the fast corner exits will be fixed at this point.  While most of the focus of this issue has been on My team I feel it is a problem in GP mode as well and it can be extremely frustrating. The AI needs more variation during acceleration out of corners. Trying to match the point where they get on the throttle usually ends in a snap of oversteer. Their tire temps always cap out at 92c which seems odd to me. 

    I'm also getting super tired of the lack of awareness in corners from the AI and swerving under braking. Late braking overtake attempts get destroyed when the AI tries to block me under braking at the last second and I run into the back of them.  A lot of times the AI gets kind of crazy while defending, take a horrible line through the corner where they get too close to the apex and suddenly shoot back out on to the racing line and hit me.

    I'm surprised to see in the unresolved issue list the AI give up on overtakes too easily. It should say the AI makes contact with the player's car too easily.

    I also feel the reason behind the fast corners exits is also giving them a sizeable advantage with grip on the starts.

    @ScarDuck14To be very honest, after 2 years, more than 2500 hours of single player experience in the series and observing player comments, I think the AI balance is really not as bad as most people felt. It's certainly far from perfect, with lots of rough edges that needed to be address, but in the end It's still down to the player's ability on each track and it could be drastically different from player to player.

    You know what, I found Bahrain to be one of the easiest when it comes to AI, and Jeddah is still one of the hardest for me, I'm not joking.

    The situation is probably similar to other difficult games where player skill and their choices on how they play could heavily impact their experience, like in Dark Souls or Elden Ring with their boss fight vs your build kinda situation.

    Since I play close to full assists, I would feel the AI discrepancies more than most. Pre-1.07 the AI was even at all tracks. 1.07 messed my measure and I am recalibrating for 1.08.

    But it seems the AI is still fairly balanced track to track.

    @nangu22 Last year I dominated all ai at Baku. It’s only track I could win against 110 ai. But the very same corner you lose it. I’d either lose the back end or under steer and lose my front wing hit the wall. Finding the right setup just to negotiate that corner with out sacrificing pace on other parts off the track took a lot off trial and error. Turns out low front wing was the way to go. That corner I found didn’t like rlll

    @Apophis-STR Hardest track for me and I’ve been racing on it for decades in every racing game. Is Suzuka. I know it just as well as I know any track. But I just can’t dance to it’s tune. Whereas Spa And Portugal or china, I’m lord of the dance.

    I have no actual problem with the ai. I enjoy racing the ai. And I’ve had some epic races where I’ve actually punched the air and shouted and down a happy dance: And not been annoyed if I’ve lost or worse destroyed my car. What I hate is mechanics like rubber banding and scripted events. I get they are their for the average casual gaming to enhance the fun. As I’m guessing they don’t tend to race the ai on harder difficulties. But ai from 80 up is a challenge enough

    @Apophis-STRKind of the opposite here. Started Career Mode last night as Verstappen's teammate. 90AI. Struggled to keep up with VER in Bahrain and came in second. The AI kill me at the exit of turn 10 and gain from two to four tenths on me there. All things gained in sector one are lost. Then I have to make a comeback in sector three. ERS management is paramount.

    I dominated in Jeddah and won. I love this track. Once I get a rhythm going its like I get tunnel vision and the car feels like it is on rails. Get turns one and two right and you can pick up several tenths on the AI as a buffer for the DRS straights.

    Definitely have to dial in older setups in GP short race mode. That way I can see if my soft tires are going to overheat. Then go back to Career with a well tuned setup.

    @Hansenhaus Turn 10 is a peculiar corner, there's a very specific way of braking and line you need to take to get a decent exit, but it's definitely possible to even gain on the 90 AI there.

    @ScarDuck14 Well you could still beat the teams close around you, I guess it also depends on what upgrade you have chosen at the start.

    I usually took rear downforce and drag reduction, these really give you a good start.

    @Apophis-STR Good to know. I have to keep practicing then! I definitely do better with turn 10 when I lift and coast into that corner but the AI will dive bomb you if they are close behind. Often they will go off track doing it.

    @Apophis-STR Yeah same: rear downforce and double drag then chassis for facilities and minor weight reduction before Bahrain.

    Engine if I have any spare points I upgrade ers. But I only upgrade engine during first season if I got massive discounts and spare points.

    Focus on weight reduction then drag then distribution and downforce. Your not winning championships in first season so I plan ahead Getting chassis and aero to top spot: second season best engine and powertrain and durability facilities. But still only upgrade engine parts if I’m losing time on track.

    @ScarDuck14 Yes, that's how I go on Baku too. I can drive those corners flat out too, but not with full tank and cold tires (so the first two laps of the race usually I need to be cautious there), while the AI has no problems at all.

    @nangu22 Longs I don’t risk using ers until I’m on the straight I’m ok. But I’m my own worst enemy and can’t help think a just a little tap off ers will be fine. Then a second or two later I’ve destroyed ny car
